No power to fuel pump
No power to fuel pump
Hey everyone..I am hoping someone can help me with an issue I am having with no power to my fuel pump. So far I found out I don't have power to the orange wire at the relay. The dark green/ white wire is giving power from ecu. I don't have power at the 20 Amp inline number 2 fuse at the canister up by the passenger side headlight. I am wondering if someone knows where the red wire at this fuse gets power from. Is it right at the battery...or some where else...the wire runs up through the harness and I care ally find where it hooks to to get power...any help is greatly appreciated

Re: No power to fuel pump
I'm no expert at wiring diags, and I don't know year of your car, but assuming not much changed I'm looking at 1992 5.7liter TPI diags ... grn/wht wire from ECM energizes relay, sending battery? (hot at all times) current from orange wire to fuel pump on gray wire - this simply primes pump sending some gas to injectors to get car started. Then, car has enough gas to start engine, so starting car creates oil pressure and oil pressure switch is activated sending current from orange wire to fuel pump on gray wire.
Here's the diags: https://austinthirdgen.org/storage/F...ine_wiring.gif
So - if your car does not prime the pump with key on, then at the relay connector, you should be able to jumper the orange wire to the gray wire and make pump run. If it runs, then I'd try a new relay. If your car primes the pump with key on, but then does not start or starts then dies because the pump is not running, then try a new oil pressure sending unit.
Sometimes the pumps are hard to hear, especially with traffic, neighbors, dogs, kids, etc. Get someone to turn key on while you have your ear against the trunk hump to listen.
