Dash harness compatibility

I just picked up another 92 Camaro rs (first 3rd gen in 15 years) and the previous owner removed all of the HVAC and radio. In doing so the harness was cut. I plan to replace all of that but I need to know what years are compatible for the dash harness. Thank you.

Re: Dash harness compatibility

You're probably barking up the wrong tree. Not the best way to handle those things, if that's all you need.

The HVAC harness is completely separate from the "dash" one. Since there were several HVAC options the harness for whichever one the car has is part of the HVAC system and assembled into the car with that, not the "dash" harness. It plugs into the "dash" one to get 12V; just one wire, one plug. Other than that it's totally a standalone. Pretty sure you can get it out of many GM cars from the same age; would probably need to be a RWD car such as a Caprice or G body though.

The PO probably didn't "remove" the radio harness; only, cut the ends back too far. Not hard to get the pigtails out of any GM car of that era and put them back onto the existing wires.

Re: Dash harness compatibility

If you need to replace/install a HVAC harness into your 92 than your best option is to acquire one from another 90-92 car with a similar Engine to your car. This is so the HVAC-to-Engine harness connectors are a direct match in the engine bay. When it comes to the actual dash harness ( IF NEEDED ) the same thing applies - get one from a 90-92 and has got the same engine that's in your car.

During most years the HVAC harness is specific to the type of engine that's in the car and the HVAC-to-Engine harness plugs are specific to the engine used in the car from the factory. Example: sometimes that HVAC connector has a 3 wire plug,.. sometimes it was 4 wires. I noticed this most when dealing with V6 to V8 engine swaps,... but it's very possible that it's specific to the exact Engine: as in 1 harness for 90-92 TBI and a different one for 90-92 TPI as well as 1 for the 3.1 MPFI. While you can probably modify your connectors so everything works OK - why deal with cutting/splicing/re-pinning when you can just get the correct harness !

& like Sofa said; when it comes to the radio wiring you'll almost certainly have to simply splice another set of radio plugs to your existing dash harness. If you can't find the plugs then they were probably just hacked off the dash harness.

Re: Dash harness compatibility

There are many variables/ differences in the Dashboard/ Instrument-Panel Wiring Harnesses.
Camaro vs Firebird, Model-Year, Engine, Transmission, and many Interior Options will all determine differences in the Wiring Harnesses for the Interior.

I was making Interior Wiring Harnesses for about 2 Years, and the differences are just too overwhelming.
The Wiring Harnesses essentially need to be made custom for an individual Third-Gen.

Only a very small amount of Fuse-Panel and C100 Wiring is Universal.
It's ridiculous

Our Interior Wiring does not take advantage of Relays; excluding the Power Door Lock and Power Hatch Circuits.

The main objective of My Interior Wiring Harnesses was to integrate Relays:
-The Neutral-Safety Circuit.
-The Ignition Circuit.
-The Starter Motor Circuit (NOT the VATS Circuit).
-The Interior Lights Circuit.
-The Running Lights Circuit.
-The Low and High-Beam Lights Circuits.
-The Fog Lights Circuit.
-The Power Window Circuits.
-And many more/ ETC.

Here is some of My Sealed Interior Fuse Panels (IPBEC) that is being assembled.
Shown below:

The Square looking thing with Grey Connectors (Right Side of Image) is a group of Sealed Splice-Packs.

Re: Dash harness compatibility

I have a 83 L69 car. I wanted a heater control valve; I ended up with about a 91 or so 6-cyl harness, maybe out of a Firebird, can't recall anymore. Except for the different high-speed relay connector (which I just ganked the relay out of the donor car along with the harness, didn't cost a dime extra), it all dropped in and hooked right up.
