My car has the overhead console with the dome light and the map light. The map light works normally like it's supposed to. The dome light does not come on when I open the doors, however the footwell lights do. If I press the button on the console the dome light will turn on. I haven't pulled it down yet to investigate, but I was curious if any of you have had this happen?
Seems like the door switches shouldn't be the issue since the footwell lights come on, and the dome light itself is fine since it works with the button.
It turned out my spring inside the button is broken. The little piece with the four tabs spins as you push the button and turns the light on/off, and the spring puts enough tension on it to make it connect. I knew the button seemed a little loose, and the light would flicker if I barely touched it. The spring is what makes the button tight so that it gives that firm 'click'.
I have no idea where to find a tiny spring like that, but I was able to stretch it out enough to make good contact again. So far it's working, until that spring compresses enough to make the button loose again.
Glad you found the culprit ,I was going to say that that dome light also works off the dimmer headlight light switch, door, and the dome light switch too
