Radio without power antenna
Radio without power antenna
On my 1989 trans am the power keeps running. I know the problem and was going to remove the unit and repair. However I decided to do it next year.
I previously unpluged 1 relay just under the a plastic piece below the leather pouch. It stopped the power motor from running. But now the radio comes on but just static. I will manually pull up the antenna. What wire on that relay do I need to cut so the power antenna doesn't work. Will my radio work to select channels after I cut the wire and re-connect the relay and using the manual up antenna.

Car's wiring harnesses are kinda like virginity, once the cherry is popped there ain't no going back

Better plan, why not just plug the relay back in, turn on the radio so it's at least trying to go up, then manually pull the antenna up with the motor running in the up position (as it should be with the radio on), and then before switching the radio off, unplug the relay.
this will get the antenna up with no evil cutting of the wires needed

PS, the relay has nothing to do with the radio's reception other than putting the antenna up, if the antenna is up, and the relay is unplugged, the radio WILL still receive stations.............
