Hello everybody, my 83 Camaro is getting close to hitting the road. With the law the way it is about your license plate lights, Just wondering has anyone ever found a way of cleaning those lenses. I will be street legal but do not want them to yard me over because the can not see my plate.

Re: License plate lenses
Not a permanent fix but I use the Meguiar's PlastX on our Miata's head lights (MX5) when they get hazy. Lasts for about two months.
Or wet send wet sand and polish?

Re: License plate lenses
You don't need a license plate lense. I don't know how they're even legal. I can never read license plates that have them...

Re: License plate lenses
Depends on where you are. Some places, they are required by law.

Probably wouldn't be hard to 3D print some of em.

Re: License plate lenses
Maybe Phoenix doesn't have that law.

I don't think they care about the lens itself; only that the plate is "adequately" lit. Not sure what the standard for "adequate" is in any such place. Seems like an opportunity for some selective police customer service to me, butt hay, what do I know about any of that.

Re: License plate lenses
On my 83 Camaro the lens is what holds the bulb. It is the way they were made.

Re: License plate lenses
It is the law here in Washington and if the cop is having a bad day. Well they can pull you over and who knows what will happen from there. Loud exhaust and what else they can find.

Re: License plate lenses
I ordered led license plate lights. I will clean and polish and try the led lights. Has anyone used the led bulbs. Do they get hot?

Yes I have.

No they do not. They work well enough as far as I can tell, except that they are not immune to failure. I have one right now that sort of blinks chaotically at times and sometimes even goes dark.

At any rate, I use Brillianize #2 to polish plastic, you can get the set of 3 on Amazon.
