Need more light!
This is the deal, my headlights are horrible. At night (esp. when it's raining) I can't see a damn thing. Voltage is okay, I've come to the conclusion that it's just time to replace the lamps. Has anyone used Sylvania Super Blue headlights? If so, how much brighter are they than say the Sylvania high outputs? Are they worth the extra $4 a lamp? I want the brightest, whitest light possible without doing a headlight conversion. Thanks.

I have the sylvania cool blues. They suck when it's wet out. In the dry they are about the same brightness as regular lights, but a slightly different color. The best headlights I've used are PIAA, but they're not cheap at $70-$80 per set plus the cost of an H4 conversion.

Yeah, sorry, I got the GE and Sylvania mixed up... Since it doesn't seem like I'm gonna see any dramatic difference with any sealed beam headlamps I'm toying with the idea of getting the H4 Xenon conversion kit from Pro Street Lighting for my low beams and leaving the highs sealed beam for now. Although it would cost $60
I didn't really want to do a conversion unless I could find diamond cut housings (which pro street doen't have for our cars. Any more ideas/suggestions?

I would also like to know if there is way to "brighten" up Firebird headlights. Is there a way to also possibly change out the fog/driving lamps to "brighter ones? Thanks
Oh and Jza, is that all she can do is bend over!?

I just changed my headlights, AI can't remember the brand, but you can get them from autozone, advance or others and they are in a purple box ($16.00 ea. if I remember). they are much brighter than the originals.
as for fog lights, there was a post once about putting headlight bulbs in the factory housings but you needed to upgrade the wiring for it. my fog light lenses were broken and chipped. I found a cheap set ($19.00) from autozone that all the parts bolted right up to the factory housings and are much brighter that the factory units.

Here is a link for a conversion set of lights but I'm not sure if any of these will work on our cars. If anyone knows what the part numbers are for the stock replacements please post them so that I can check to see if these are compatible.

Actually if you test it you'll find the voltage isn't "fine". You can get a relay kit (2 req'd) from M.A.D. Enterprises, PO BOX 675, Springville, CA 93265 (209)539-7128. This will boost the voltage to the hedlights dramatically. In an article in Jan 98 of CHP, pg. 35 & 36 the describe the kit and their test results. They found the voltage at the headlights was only 11.4 v prior to installing the kit. After it was 14.1 v. Good luck, Lon
I tried some diamond-cut housings. The light dispersion was horrible. There was a bright focused right of light in the middle, and dim light everywhere else. The GE HO sealed beams have a uniform brightness over the whole field of view, which is why I like them so much.
Switching to relays and heavier gauge wiring will make your current headlights brighter. A change in just half a volt can make your lights noticably brighter. My voltage at the headlights went from 10.48 volts to 11.74 volts (with the engine off) just from using relays.

Thanks for the info guys!!! I will start on a new wiring harness with relays right away! I don't know how many times I've been through the tech articles and missed that one. I may do an H4 conversion in the future, but for now I think I'll stick with the GE H.O.s.
I looked at the site that tells you how to add relays in to make the headlights brighter. I was wondering about the fog lamps also. I want them to be brighter as well. But the fog lamps already use a relay. Do i need to get a better one, or can i use the stock one?? If you can use the stock one do i just replace the power wire from the alternator to the fog lamps on the in side and the out side of the relay?? Also what size wire do i use for the fog lamps can they use the same size wire as the headlamps?? While i am here, why don't the headlamps use relays anyway and how do they get away with it?? I know that those headlamps can draw some amps, how does the switch not burn out is it pretty sturdy or what?? Plus if anyone has any pictures of how the wiring looks that would help. Thanks.
