Need help with alternator wiring
Ok, I converted from TPI to carb and we pulled out the wiring harness. Now I have 1 wire off the alternator that goes no where and the alternator doesn't work at all. What is the tan with white stripe wire that comes off the alternator? If I'm reading my wiring diagram right it goes to "FP FAN" fuse? What the heck is FP FAN?

The tan/white wire needs to be hooked up to a switched +12v.

Well I found the wire it goes to (brown wire coming out of the drivers side firewall) but the alternator still doesn't work. I'm thinking maybe I blew a fusible link. I'm 98% sure the alternator is still good.

Be sure there is actually +12v on that wire with thte key on. There is no fusable link to that wire.
One way to know (aside from testing the voltage on the wire) is with no power & the belt off the alt, it will spin freely, once the regulator has power (key in run position, there should be noteable resistance to spin the alt (not a super tough resistance mind you but, much more than when there was no power to it)
That brown wire is what supplies power to the regulator to make it work. 98% sure also means you're 2% not sure if it really is dead.

I'll do those tests tonight. I say 98% sure because with my car you never really know. The alternator is only about 3 months old and worked perfectly before the swap. Thanks for the info, I'll let you know what I come up with.
