my temp gauge sytem is haunted or something..
what hte heckk could cause this ? when am cranking engine,a nd before the engine fires up the needle pegs way past 220 and gets stuck there, until i push the needle to the right with finger, wire is not grounded out or it would not return to under 220 like it does when i unjam it. works fine after i knowck it down from being stuck every time. Id liek to figure this one out so i can put the overlay back on my instr panel lol
anyoen know what the heck is going on ?
thanks

The temp gauge wire (dark green) is grounded by the ign switch for a gauge full scale operational test, when the switch is in the start position. If you want to defeat the test, cut the dark green wire going to the ign switch on the steering column.

ok that didnt change anything, i pulled the dk green wire out of the column harness flat connector and gauge still pegs to right when starting engine.. i checked wiring diagram and it does reflect the wire coming form ign to the sender and then to gauge, so hmm, why in the heck would it stil be pegging right ?
wierd.,, its haunted, has to be,,,
thanks

The dark green wire in the flat harness that runs down the column goes to the turn signal switch & is for the right rear turn signal. You need to access the dark green wire going to the ign switch, which is mounted on top on the column tube, near the floor board.
The gauge functional test is there to make sure the gauge will register full scale in the event the sensor were to read a high temperature (low resistance). Sounds like your gauge is defective, as it should not stick when @ full scale.

The green and yellow wires run the R & L turn / stop signal lamps in a single filament turn / stop lamp system. Third gens, however, have a two filament turn /stop signal lamp system, so the green & yellow wires are used exclusively for the R & L turn signal bulbs and another wire (blue) is used for the brake lights.

maybe this is a dash ground problem ?
what ya think ?
thanks Tim

Could be. I'd pull the cluster & inspect it, the harness connectors, & the sockets on the rear of the cluster. Also verify that the grounds on the harness plugs are good (< 2 ohms to the chassis, or so).

Your Temp gauge is NOT defective. Mine does this also. The trick is to pull the cluster and file the edge of the gauge. Thanks to less than stringent assembly tolerances, the outer edge of the lip on the gauge is just slightly too high, causing the needle to hang there. Just file that edge off a little and no more sticking.
