Car alarm with pager?
Car alarm with pager?
Is there any way to rig a car alarm up to a pager so you can be alerted when the alarm goes off? Or is there anyone that sells something like that? I think it would be well worth the investment if I could catch someone in the act of vandelism.

I know someone used to make them. Check with shops that deal with car alarms they will be able to tell you if they are still made or not.
crutchfield has them its called the CrimeStopper FM Pager and runs around 130 bucks. check out there website for more info.

Oh Hell yeah they make them! This is the year 2002 man they better make them. I saw this one at this web page and if you want a investment this is it for 600 bucks. This is a pager system that goes on you key chain. It has a pic of you car on it. let say some one was jacking around with you door. Then the pic of the door lights up and beeps viberates or what ever it does for 600 buck. If someone is messing with you hatch it tells you, window it tells you, just a viberation from a hot rod oh yeah it knows, wind, someone sitting on your car whatever. I'll see if I can find the web site for you.
Got mine from JCwhittney for like $50.00, nothing as fancy as the $600, it will just beep or vibrate when the alarm goes off, but its alot cheaper than $600, I think any damage to the car would be repairable under 600, unless you pissed someone off, and as for protecting whats in it, whether u know where they came from or not your screwed, by the time u get there the car wont be, or your radio wont be.

Not necessarily. Sure if I'm not home at the time. I plan on getting an apartment next year at college and my car will be sitting right outside in a crowded parking lot all the time. I'd much rather run outside in the middle of the night to chase some theiving bastard down than wake up to see my CD player gone. It's a good point you make about $600 though.
Will the pager work anywhere? No matter how far you are from the car? Thanks.

My 2 cents...
I have the compustar car alarm, which in my opinion, is the best on the market. It has the pager function your speaking of, and all the bells and whistles to boot. It has everything from starter disable and active arming, to remote start and window rollup. The best feature though is the pager function. Somebody earlier wrote about an alarm with a 5/8 of a mile range. However, I don't believe that is true. I could be wrong though. When I bought my alarm, it had the longest range in the industry, and it's range is a little under a half mile. I highly suggest anybody interested in getting a pager module for your alarm to do so. It has been invaluable to my car. One time in particular, I was at work and it started to beep. SO I looked at the remote LCD, thinking it was a low battery or something. Next thing I know, I see the door flashing, meaning somebody was breaking into my car. SO I quickly rounded up two of my friends from work and we ran out to the parking lot, to find some schmuck *** kid trying to steal my car stereo. Let's just say he didn't get very far, and leave it at that. Want one, get one, you can always get a new bird, but you can never replace the memories you have with it.

if you get one dont get the ones the guys are selling off ebay, I got one last summer went through 3 of them and never got any of them to work right, and I had a $150-200 unit, even took it into a stereo shop to make sure I had it all hooked up right and they said it was ok, when I would send in the old units they would only say there was nothing wrong with these. I just got pissed off and threw the whole damn thing in a box cause they had like a 50% restock fee
there are a few different model alarm pagers on ebay. what one did you have problems with?
all manufacturers have a bad unit slip out of their factories from time to time. for instance, i've got a few DEI remote start setups sitting over in the garage that did not function properly when installed in the car nor do they function properly on the test bench.
many times alarm malfunction can be traced back to not connecting the wires properly, but not always. i'd rather have a cheap alarm installed well. than an expensive alarm installed poorly.

Alpine
Alpine makes one for around 150.00.
It uses your radio antenna to send the signal to your
pager, you just have to get a splitter adaptor one for the
radio one for the pager. the unit ties into your existing
non-alpine alarm, or plugs directly into a alpine unit or it
can be a stand alone unit. Either way, for the price it's pretty
nifty.
Another company makes one also. I saw an ad in the crutchfield
catalog. However, it required a special antenna that comes
wioth it. (a thief could just cut the wire or break it)
what's cool about the alpine one is if you have power antenna.
and say some dude is messin with your car.. all of a sudden here
he is standing there in the dark right? and it's all quiet.. next thing he hears the power antenna makin its noise, and seeing it go up... now as a thief.. wouldnt you freak out?? I would! I would prolly be thinkin.. ****.. this car is KITT!! "maybe its callin the police right now.. or maybe its sending signals to the FBI, either way.. this is bad news!" even if the real alarm didnt kick in yet, the thief has already freaked and moved on.
and as for you.. you get a page that shows a dotmatrix car, and it shows what part of the car is being messed with.. if its the door, the door is flashing, the hatch.. the hatch is flashing.. etc.. pretty neat, and its beeping and wakin yer *** up too.,

I bought my alarm from Alta Mere Alarm and Tinting. It's a local shop. I think you can buy the compustar directly from the manufacturer, but I'm not sure. If you contact them, I'm sure they can tell you if there is a retailer in your area. Their website is www.compustar.org. Again, just my 2 cents, but I think it's the best alarm out there. Check it out.

The alarm I bought has remote start and alarm. The pager is relatively small, a little bigger than my old one and a little bigger than my tastes, but it isn't too big. I bought the alarm while I was going to school in Oklahoma. I don't know if the price I paid is relatively expensive or cheap. I used to have a Code ALarm on my car, but then got my stereo stolen. I had that stereo for all of a week. SO I decided that the alarm was a POS. So, my parents were nice enough to get me a new one. So I called around and did a little research. Voila, got the compustar. Never had a problem with it, and it's been a little over a year and a half.
