I would be very interested in trading for a super sport, cowl or ram air hood. Would also be interested in a nice set of wheels.

As far as the rust it is only surface. A good honing should remove it but yes a .30 overbore would definately remove it.

Hello,

Excuse me for interupting your thread. I have a set of main caps for sale if someone wants them for this 2 bolt block. They are "Cat" brand, steel, splayed 4 bolt main caps, new never used or machined - virgin caps with high tensile bolts. Being as the block needs to go to the machine shop anyway these would be a great add on to convert it to a 4 bolt block.

Sorry for intertupting the thread here.

wow, this is the longest thread I've seen for a 509 block. Is it sold yet? These are nice strong blocks - 600HP plus I hear with no problem. The 2 bolt version is much better than 4 with 400 blocks. You can go 60 over with a 2 bolt I think - a 4 bolt you should stick to less than 40. It has to do with the casting and the thickness of certain areas. If you were closer, I would be selling my 4 bolt block for this one. I can't tell by the pic, but it looks like a stock bore?

Put it on one of the old car forums, and it will sell. Something like Chevelles.net, camaros.net, or Nasty28.com. Lots of 406+ guys in these forums.

Hey Justin what is up with that . Hiding something! Just because I did not get pics up in your time frame. Why are you even replying to this post. The block is just as stated what could I be hiding? I have taken pics of the bores ,casting numbers and all parts included. I think it is a slap in the face when you jump on a post and accuse something of hiding something. As a senior member you should be very ashamed of yourself. Anyone who is interested can come and look at it for themselves. the block is as described in great shape. It is a standard bore and only needs honing. And dsherw00d is correct the 2 bolt blocks are stronger than the 4-bolt.

Hello Gentlemen,

Two more cents worth - The 509 and the 511 (replacement truck block) two bolt blocks are stronger than the 4 bolt blocks because of the higher silicon content of the metalurgy, and the casting holes were much smaller therefore adding much more metal at needed points.

It is recomended that if a 400 block needs boring to only go to .020". This leaves one more boring out to .030" incase of future needs. Four bolt blocks can only go to .030 over bore with out overheating - two bolt (509's & 511 replacement) can be bored a maximum of .040 before overheating.

thanks for the listen, Ed.
