i have an lsx and these would take too much to mod to make work so... ive had these for ~6 years, probably longer and have listed them several times with no takers.. still in the original box, all the spirolocks are there, still wrapped in the paper, etc.

hopefully youre building a motor these would be great for it

Re: Ross Racing Forged Pistons NIB

If the compression distance is indeed 1.433, then they must be for a long rod motor...yes?

Re: Ross Racing Forged Pistons NIB

I'm using 6" rods.

I don't think these would work for my 383 stroker build.

I still don't fully understand the difference between stroker pistons and regular pistons. Skirts perhaps?

Re: Ross Racing Forged Pistons NIB

The difference is where the wrist pin is located.
The compression distance is the measurement from the centerline of the wrist pin to the top of the piston.
For a long rod motor the pin has to be higher up. For a stroker, higher yet.

For a 355 5.7 rod, the distance should be 1.560-1.565.

Yep, learn something new every day. I'm going with Mahle flat tops for my 383, if I can ever pay for the darn things.....just the pistons are needed, then my builder can finish my short block.......FINALLY.

Re: Ross Racing Forged Pistons NIB

Notice the stroke size (3.750) these are indeed 383 pistons with a 5.7 rod. (not the best combo) IMO. That's why the 1.433 compression distance.

Re: Ross Racing Forged Pistons NIB

I know that Ross makes really good pistons.

Yep, I was told by my engine builder that I should use 6" rods for a 383. I don't know why 6" rods are better, but I went with what he said and got 6" forged Compstars.

What I don't get is why there are so many 5.7" stroker combos and pistons out there, when 6" rods are supposed to be better. Why is this I wonder?

rod:stroke ratio. its not HORRIBLE with a 5.7" rod (the ford 347's and 5.4's are really bad). a 5.7 rod 383 will still be reliable, powerful, etc. i couldnt give these things away tho...lol.

Bump for some nice pistons. SOMEONE could use these I am sure. Did you try craigslist?

Actually I was wrong. I still also need a zero balanced flywheel, for my guy to finish my short block.

And the Mahle pistons I'm getting come with rings

but dont you want some gapless, less than 1% leak down rings

i kid... maybe. thanks for the kind words. and yes i have, no bites. ive nailed down that they CAN be used in a long rod 355 or a 5.7 rod 383 so thats where im at now.

i would use these in my 6.0 but unfortunately, that cant happen
