I didn't want to backdoor anyone. Someone asked if anyone was bidding on ebay, I said I was. I was making it clear that I was in the running for the shifter. Did you bid on it? Don't think so.

Just put in a new Pearl... ha ha.
I saw earlier in another thread that you had one. Did you replace your factory shifter cable? Did you also saw you had some extra parts?
Sell your shifter to Twin Turbo. I'm sure there is a price you might sell for? Who knows, in my opinion they make the interior! They look great and better than factory.

LOL, Yeah I used the shift cable they supplied with the kit fitment was great I did have to grind a small amount of metal on the bracket that bolts the shift cable to the side of the trans to get it to work perfectly. I would for sure sell but I wont give it away if he wants it he can pm me his best cash offer maybe there is something we can work out

Page 5 and the tention is building. Lets not turn on each other now. We all should just hope for the best and if it works out then great. If not, then we keep ebay hunting. Happy Holidays people.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

I got a nice PM this morning from a member telling me that I screwed him too - he "needs" 3 of the shifters. Makes me want to run right out and make an effort!
Anyway, one or two negative people isn't going to discourage me. My hands are tied on my end until after the first. Most places seem to be closed and no respose as of yet. I would rather have these shifters made then to let mine sit in a box. We will get something made, even if it says B&M on it rather than Hurst.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

Why are these compies looking to get us to supply them with a shifter and not finding one themselfs? Their is obviously alot of ppl intersed in this shifter (yes I know there are ppl that will back out when they find out the price or get tired of waiting and they go with the mega shifter(Wich I have néw in box and want to sell) but that should still be a good amour of people that will buy them. We don't need a civil war going on in this thread can we all just get along please? We wouldn't want this thread to get locked now would we? If you guys want to bitch at each other go to pm's.

~Twin turbo - I am sorry you feel cheated out of it , I really am sorry about that but its just a mTter of Time before one pops up on eBay again.

~Rarebmx I do hope you do all you can to get it reproduced or at least use it and not put it away in some closet , any ideas how long it would take or a ball park of how much it would cost?

So I got my NOS on ein today...
The other news is: I found another one today! A guy selling some parts locally had one that he did not have listed in his ad. Too bad the plate was cut a bit but I do have the hardest part. A Good day!

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

Okay, if anyone is still paying attention to this thread I compared the two shifters. I know the early ones allowed the use of the factory shift cable and the later ones used a Hurst cable. It seems I have one of each now. You can see attached pictures, I really only see one difference in the two.
Whomever I work with to get these reproduced I am going to figure out a route and decide which shifter cable will be better. It might, and please understand I am not for sure on anything yet, just brainstorming but a race version to use a Hurst cable and a street version to use factory cable? It looks like just one extra tab added for Hurst cable.
I will need input form others on this so I can have the feedback to push one way or the other.

I just got off the phone with B&M. They said ThePartsPlaceInc has the exclusive rights to reproduce Hurst shifters and are the only ones who can do it. I also heard that detroit speed inc is thinking about buying one to reproduce but that isn't going to be anytime soon and I would think they will have cease and disist letters if in fact ThePartsPlaceInc has exclusive rights, B&M doesn't have anything to do with it but owning the name.
On Tuesday I will call Joe (ThePartsPlaceInc) and see where this project needs to go. I am also going to try and find out a projected date of release and a price point. I do want this to be a positive thread and asked a Mod via PM to clean up all the other talk that doesn't have to do with forward progress.
After doing even more looking today, all the shifters look about the same ie: Olds, 2nd gens, Pontiacs, it seems they just use a different mounting bracket and of course the 700R4. I am guessing if the do reproduce this they can also retrofit thier other shifters for a 700R4 setup. This is a pretty good deal for them but the price tag that they want for a 69 and the 81 style dual/gate ($695) seems excessive. How many are in at $695 vs $295?

$695?! The pyramids were built in less time than this and were cheaper!

whats that?

$695 is out of my price range 295 I can deal with. ( feel like its still high priced for a shifter ) yes I know it takes money to make them again blah blah blah . but 695??? you can tell em that very few will be sold if its that high most third gen people dont have 700 for a shifter and can not justifiy it.

Don't get me wrong I've never cheap out of my build and have never half assed it. I feel like it would fall under the catagorie of 3pc wheels, I would love some , but few have em dude to the price. the price is why i dont have a set.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

I was willing to pay around $400 to $450. There is no way I'm dishing out 700 bones for a shifter. That is just not reasonable to me.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

As promised I talked with Joe at thepartsplaceinc today. They too want to buy a shifter, then reproduce the one they buy. I quote "we are in no rush and when we find one we will figure it out". The cheapest one they sell is $495 up to $695 for the 1st gen Camaro. It was a pointless conversation because a NOS one to be destroyed to make a reproduction is nuts. Plus he wants to buy it for less then he will sell the reproductions for.
My hands are once again tied..... I truly thought they wanted one to reproduce. They want one sold to them under the price they are going to sell reproductioms for. Why do they need a NOS one to destroy? Sounds fishy to me & this thread was started under reproducing. a Shifter & Thepartsplace WANTED to do it, they are having a tough time getting a Shifter.
Bottomline: you are going to sell them for $500+/ unit, you need to buy one for at least that. I offered that I had both bit Joe just wants one to take apart to make $. I have it, call Joe & let him know if you want. the impression I got today is: if one shows up then we are considering making them. no timeline, no rush.
I am having a couple shifter plates made but looking into another option.... Joe doesn't care to make these. I'm also going to look into a place that could make these. Joe never once made an effort to come to some type of agreement... sad but not sure what else to do? The one I have will be used, the NOS one can be used but not be me. I am trying to still make progress, they are not that complex of Shifter & getting price on plastic as well as billet aluminium. sit tight.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

I believe that anything over $300 will be unreasonable for the average 3rd gen enthusiast. I've gotten the impression over the years (thru selling parts), that most guys are just trying to keep their cars running, and are focused on replacing the factory OEM parts that are no longer functional.

Think about it.....the shifter is a novelty, it's not like our cars don't have a shifter we can buy. I have a B&M ratchet shifter, it works just fine at the track. However, the Dual-Gate does look better, and probably performs slightly better. But how many are really going to jump on this?

How many 3rd Gen owners are actually racing their cars? From my experience over the last 10 yrs, not many. When I go to the different local tracks, 95% of the time I'm the ONLY 3rd Gen racing!! And if there are any, their usually full-blown race cars.....therefore, running a powerglide.

I've been following this thread for quite some time, but unless the price is completely reasonable & competitive, this is all just words on a page. I'm just trying to be realistic here. I don't see these shifters flying off the shelf, even if it is put into production. Company's in this economy need to make good profits to survive.....I don't see this shifter providing that.

Again, this is all........ ......take it as you may.

In mid 80s I was looking for Lightning Rods.
Even back then it was upwards of $400!!

Went to a drag expo couple years ago, a guy wanted $700 and not all linkage was there!!

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

well I am having shifter plates made, then I will look into the shifters themselves. I am just making 10 plates, 5 will be all plastic and 5 will be plastic and billet aluminum. These seem to be about the hardest part to come by. I might end up buying an old used th350 shifter and comparing the differences. I'm not reproducing I am going to see if I can modify the originals that seem to be easy to come by and go modified to work. I think that might be most cost effective way without issues of patent/trademark and all new tooling. just hang in there. I just don't want to make all the parts but from what I have seen, the shifter is the same setup, just unique plate and slanted slightly.... I AM WORKING ON IT..

I agree that the average person will not go over $300. There is another part of this that makes them a little more rare and desirable. If they were $100 then everyone would just go ahead and buy one because it looks cooler.
I went to the place yesterday and verified the plates. I still want to change the plates to have the selector light-up to have a more factory look. Still working on all the brackets, that is next. I've made progress but still need to talk more with B & M. I have more inspiration because if I can have the plates made for a reasonable price these shifter can also be used in all F-bodies (Firebirds) and there are some G-Body guys who want these shifters....

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

Well, I have been searching more for other Dual gates. I got another one today in the box out of Delaware (check CL guys). This one has a different box that I haven't seen before.
I also found one in a car in San Anotonio Texas that is used. He will sell it for $200 but plate is worn but still there. I am also having new custom plates made, should be another two weeks though before the creeen is done. He just wants someone to put back in a factory setup. I am going to get these reproduced somehow, some way!

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

Would the difference be the extra *notch* or *gate* in a 4 speed auto as compared to a 3 speed auto & maybe lil bit of difference in length of the plastic housing?

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

I don't have any other shifters other than the 700r4 (4 speed ones) to look at. From pictures it looks like the plate and notches are longer, yes. I will find a 3 speed one to compare to soon. My goal was to focus on these since many newer car are running the 700R4 and this is the shifter I want to have remade.
I have three now but PM me and I can hook you up with the guy in Texas. I might buy that one too since they aren't making them anymore and at least it will go back on the market. I think when it is all sadi and done it will be around $300 to own it including having someone install the factory shifter and auto shift plate.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

Well I got the billet aluminum base plates and the little braces that hold the plates and ashtray together back today, dropped off the plastic to be waterjet cut for the top plate and met with the engraver. I just want to see how the plate process goes before the full shifter production goes. I still am waiting on B &M for answers. So sit tight but I am working on this! No B.S.
This first picture is before they were sanded down. They will get clear coated last.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

Got one plate beack from the engraver today. I will drop off the rest tomorrow. Still have not decided on the Logo yet. Any input? I am a little worried about using the HURST name since it is a Trademark. I thought about stickers or a little plaque. Still waiting on the balck bezel form the waterjet guy. He thinks late this week, early next week.
Coming along well, now to start the shifters. I did just buy a 3 speed dual/gate to see what differences are. I also bought a 94 Z28 Vert yesterday. I think I might be able to make these shifters work for the 4th gens too.

Shifter plate looks great. I am eagerly awaiting to see if the actual shifters are going to pan out. I have seen/ read about people using and modifying these shifters in various applications with the 700r4. I think the market is a little broader than many people realize.

I have seen thise on eBay for a while. I seriously doubt these would work with the 4 speed 700R4. The ad even states "HURST LIGHTNING RODS WITH EXTRA STAGING ROD"
I would suspect you could make them work somehow but I bet you sink another $500 or R&D trying to make it work.

That shifer was missing the cable $50+ plus the plate for mounting to the 700R4, which is no longer made. It is a specific part that will be my next part on the list.
That shifter went for big money but someone is going to have to figure out how to get the parts or make them, to make that thing work correctly.
My other Dual/Gate will be here on Friday. I am working on it and the other applications I will figure out and be priced a lot less than thepartsplaceinc.

Nice work rarebmx but you should stop reproduction
Dual / Gate is a copy right of Hurst (B&M) - The Parts Place
I'm sure Joe would love to hear your copying - stealing
their copy right product.
Trust me he will be hearing about it in the morning.

Dual/Gate is not a copyright. HUSRT is a TRADEMARKED name though. The patent for these shifter ran out long ago. If you are putting as much effort into telling Joe as you did getting him one of your shifters - I'm sure telling him won't happen or you might get lost on the way.
While you are at it - Send him one of the two shifter you have and have them made! You sent one but it got lost? Then you were going to get on it and still nothing.
I talked with Joe - read through the thread. I tried to work something out with Joe to get him a NOS shifter so he could make these. He wants to buy one cheaper than he will sell them for and I QUOTE "we are in no rush and not going to overpay". Overpay? He is going to sell them for $695 and does NOT want a shifter to use, he wants to buy one to start with.
Tell all you like... He should call me and if he TRULY onws the rights and TRULY wants to make these there are TWO NOS ones here plus one used one to destroy! He owns the rights? According to B&M he is their parts source, he does not own the name HURST nor DUAL GATE. I can buy the rights from B&M too since B&M doesn't even care about these shifters. Do you want my number so he can call me? You have no idea what you are even talking about. I can build this shifter with the same parts, setup and call it DUAL/GATE all I want..... I just cannot use the HURST NAME.... I can call it a sport gate. Why don't you look up the patent and tell me all the knowledge you have on this. If you need help, I have all documents ever filled by George Hurst form back in '59 for shifters and '62 with this inception. There are other companies using these diesigns already. Call him, write him go see him in person. I don't care. Truth be told - I have not sold anything yet.... What possibility do you think ANYONE has stopping me before I am selling? Get a clue! Spend your time doing what you started. If you are so tight with Joe then get the business handled! He will offer you $400 for a NOS shifter in the box - He will them destroy it, come back and sell you a reproduction one for $695.... Brialliant business plan. You should really help him out!

and yes i know what the add states.(i posted a link. Remember?)
you would need a 4th rod for the over drive. and end up with 5 rods with this unit.. BY THE WAY the reg units only had 3 rods.. just so ya know 3 speeds = 3 rods

5 Rods would be over the top Cool!! yes i would Buy it!

the last one to go on ebay like this was brand new in box. with the 4th rod (stage) was for the th400. sold for $1800 if i recall

THE 4th rod comes in a box by it's self. and is a part you get has a add on.= cool!

have always kept a look out on ebay for the Lighting rods for the last 2 years.

Re: New Hurst Dual Gate 2 Shifter #292000

If you knew what your talking about The Parts Place bought all the spart parts hurst had before Mr Gasket sold it to B&M.. The Parts Place Owns rights to the hurst name & Products/Parts and sole ownership to reproduce the dual/gate shifter.
So in other words The Parts Place are partners with B&M.

Here you go - you find it and then I will rename it to SHIFT/GATE, H/GATE or WATER/GATE - the words are trivial! Joe should have just bought one becuase now I would not even deal with him... He had no interest.
