Comp Cams OE Roller Camshaft, Xtreme Energy
Hello All,
I have for sale a Comp Cams XR258HR-12 camshaft. This cam is nearly identical in pattern to the GM Performance ZZ4 camshaft, but will fit within the maximum lift limit of factory heads and springs. I just got through pulling the camshaft out of my totaled Formula. It has 15k miles on it, and was installed with new GM Performance lifters and timing chain set. Oil was changed religiously every 3000 miles with Valvoline VR1 (with Zinc additive to reduce friction). The cam is in perfect condition, no nicks, scratches, pitting, or nastyness anywhere.
Here's the specs:
Duration at .050": 206/212
Lift (w/ 1.5:1 rockers): .480"/.487"
Lobe Separation: 112 degrees
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=185&sb=2
(this is exactly the same cam as above, but it was ground with a 112 degree lobe separation angle, and is marked as such on the end of the camshaft)
This is an EXCELLENT cam for a performance 305, which is what I had it installed in. Holds good idle vacuum, but has a slight lope at idle. I pulled a best of 31 mpg with this camshaft in my 305 backed by a T56 and 3.27:1 gears. The Powerband in a 350 is listed as 1000-5000, but it pulled hard to over 6000 rpm in my 305. This is also a great choice for a car with unmodified factory heads (or Vortech heads), as it comes in right at the .48" maximum lift of factory heads without valve guide and spring work.
I'd like $125 + shipping for it. This cam sells new for $300 from Summit Racing. First come, first serve. If you're building a hot little street 305, or looking for a nice cam to run with factory L98 or Vortech heads, you won't find a better cam.

Re: Comp Cams OE Roller Camshaft, Xtreme Energy
There is a sale pending on this. I will let both of you know if it falls through. However, I won't be going down anywhere near $100 shipped. $125 + shipping is a very fair price for this cam considering what they cost new. The Extreme Energy grind is a very modern lobe grind that puts a lot more area under the curve than the older L98 and LT1 cams of similar specs. If no one wants to pay what I'm asking, I'll just keep it and throw it in my L98 some afternoon when I get bored.

I'm waiting to hear back from the guy who said he was going to buy it. If I don't hear by Friday, it'll go to the first person with cash.
Thanks,

Re: Comp Cams OE Roller Camshaft, Xtreme Energy
Unfortunately, no I don't. With 1.5:1 rockers, it had a very slight but noticeable rumble at idle. When I switched to 1.6:1 rockers it roughened up the idle a bit more, but it was still smooth enough to hold 17-18" of vacuum at idle. Had just a touch of lope, but not anything lumpy like you hear with the 264 cam on up.
I don't have any retro fit rollers. My block was an OE roller block, so I used LS lifters from GM Performance. I don't know what to tell you about which retrofit rollers to buy, I've never messed with them. This cam will work with them in a pre-86 block though.
