'96-97 LS1 crate motor
'96-97 LS1 crate motor
I have a complete LS1 engine still in the crate it came in 1997. I have plenty of pictures, it has been sitting in a heated warehouse since bought new from a Chevy dealer.
I know this is thirdgen but I thought someone might be interested in this unique sale.
I would like to ask $4000 , but am open to offers since I don't know what one of these engines are worth with no miles on it.
I would like to post a picture but not sure I have been successful.
Thanks

Re: '96-97 LS1 crate motor
97 was the first year.. corvette only and would have had a return fuel rail and regulator. drive by wire throttle body.
this one looks a little newer but hard to tell with out more pictures... I would venture to guess by the fuel rail and valve cover you have a '98 f-body ls1 with corvette plastic on top.
the early years 97-98 are the least desirable. they are a good engine don't get me wrong but the price seems a little high.
hope this helps with what you decide to do

I have included some better pics as well as the date on the outside of the crate and a pic without the cover on. Does that help to narrow its year?
Could you give me a better ballpark figure than the $4000, for when I put it on Ebay, so I don't waste my time?
Thanks again for your time.

88 350 tpi formula is right: that is without question a 1998 Camaro/Firebird service replacement engine. It's not technically a "crate engine." The Corvette fuel rail covers were thrown on as an afterthought.
Have you posted this on LS1Tech.com? You'll probably get a better response there.

Valve covers are 97-98
DBC fbody only
Fbody oil pan
Fbody ss manifolds
Almost positive 98 fbody ls1 with corvette frcs
People buying crate engines usually don't consider lesser trim engines since it's such a cash dump. They'd go for newer/ larger engines like ls3s. Add in no FEAD or other swap parts and it's a hard sell. Having zero miles is the biggest selling factor
Best of luck with it

If you had a way of firing it up on the stand you would be able to get good money for it. A stock '98 LS1 is an $800.00 junkyard motor, but you have one with zero miles, but you also can't prove it's not junk from sitting all this time. Moisture attacking cylinder walls, valve seals hardening, gaskets hardening, etc.
A brand new 5.3 from GM is $2700, and a brand new 6.0 is $3500. But then you have manifolds, coil packs, etc. I'd think if you could prove it has zero problems from it's long term storage it's probably worth about 60-70% of what a new 6.0 is.
Either way I wish you luck.
