WTB: 90-92 Speed Density TPI memcal

I'm doing a MAF ==> SD conversion on my 88 GTA, and I have everything except a speed density TPI memcal (if you don't know what it is, it's the part that plugs directly into the ECM board and is held down with two clips. It's under the small cover with two screws). I don't need the whole ECM - I already have that.

If you have what I'm looking for, let me know what you want for it shipped to Huntington, NY 11743 and if you take paypal. Thanks in advance...

There aren't many floating around for sale, I'd reccomend contacting TPI PARTS and having them burn you the chip you need. I have a 305 conversion memcal for sale if this happens to be for a 305, but I'm guessing it a 350 by your profile.

Heh...well, actually, it's neither. The car is currently getting a MAJOR overhaul - Super Ram intake, 32 lb/hr injectors, Holley intake base, BBK 58mm TB, 383 V8, built automatic, Ford 9" rear...the works. It should make 400 - 450 hp at the wheels when it's done and tuned right. There won't be anything left of the stock drivetrain except the factory aluminum driveshaft and maybe a few sensors.

I want to switch from MAF to SD because I'm worried that the stock MAF will be a restriction in the intake, plus it will flow higher than the sensor can detect. I bought a 730 ECM with a MAP sensor off Ebay a while back, but it came with a memcal + prom for some V6 car.

I'm not even going to need the actual prom chip, as I'm putting a Prominator on it. I only need the memcal for the limp-home / ESC circuitry that's on it. I read that the V6 memcal that I have won't work.

Do you know if the 305 SD and the 350 memcal is the same? I know the actual prom is different...but what about the rest?

Yes the 90-92 memcals are the same, as long its for a V8 car. I was going to say you'd run into a problem using a stock chip as it has VATS but I see you're going to get around that with the pominator.
However, I think you're being optomistic about 400+ rwhp with an automatic, considering a local guy Vincent got 373 RWHP with a 355 SuperRam stick shift car. Trick flow heads and a 228/234 cam, too.
Either way, it sounds awesome, good luck!

Well if they're the same then I have a spare for sale for $50. Its for a 305 and was flashed for the conversion, but if you're changing it anyway then I guess that doesn't matter.

I'm pretty sure you need a 350 memcal, IIRC the knock sensor part of the memcal is tuned to the bore size so I'd get a 350 one. I just bought a new one it was only $50-60 at the local parts house. If you got a buddy with a parts discount thats what I'd do if you cant find one. I got a couple 305 ones but I wouldnt sell them to ya for a high dollar engine like yours.

ACDelco p/n 1#16151348 for the latest 350 tpi auto memcal. HTH

If you find some cheaper let me know I need one for another 350 for my truck.

gmpartsdirect.com has them for $51 and change, but they want $12 to ship it here. I may do some looking around, call a few dealers and parts stores tomorrow and see what they say. Probably would be best for me to pick up a new one anyway...at least that way, I can be 100% sure of what I'm getting.

Thanks guys for all the help!

I'm using several different 305 5-speed memcals in my computer right now, no problems.
