need everything to convert from carb

just picked up a 98 searay 210 with 80hrs. The only thing bad is it has a 305 with a 2 barrell.. need more power. I want to put TPI on it.. so, I need everything to do it. I need a deal also because I am limited in the "FUN COUPON" dept. I'm sure one of you 305 guys can help me out with a good deal. Will a 5,7 l98 set up work? I think so
Thanks

Re: need everything to convert from carb

I would consider going to a four barrel set up with a good Holley Marine Carb. The problem with going TPI is that the electronics are not water proof. F car ECMs were mounted in the interior of the car because they can't handle the elements. Now the Corvette ECM will handle the elements as it was mounted in the engine compartment and is a lot more robust. But it's pricey. You will also need a wiring harness like the universal from Painless Wiring for the install. And you would have to purchase an external high pressure pump made for fuel injection.
A good four barrel manifold like a Performer Vortec, a set of Vortec heads milled to 58cc, a slightly bigger cam, and a 600 CFM marine carb would add an easy 80 hp and 75 ft lbs over your current set up...and be snap to install as compared to TPI.

When I say Vortec heads, I mean 5.7 Vortec heads with the casting numbers 10239906 and 12558062. These have the power making port and chamber design. Your heads on the 305 are referred to as Vortec also, but these are not any where in the ball park with the castings above. The only negative is the chambers are 62 cc and yours are 58 cc. You will have to have the heads milled. If you keep your cam small with less than .465" of lift, you can use everything from your 305 heads...the rocker arms, pushrods and valve covers. If you are planning on going into salt water, then you will have to use the intake manifold on this link...

Otherwise, as stated before, the Edelbrock Vortec Performer is the way to go.

By the way....I'm jealous. That's a great boat.
