I am doing a 350 swap very soon and I was told I need an L98 flat tappet TPI cam years 85 or 86 and an 85 L98 memcal.

I'm on time restraints here so anyone who can sell me these parts please let me know.

you cant reuse a flat tappet cam over again without having the lifters with it and the lifters need to match the lobe they were riding. not worth the effort

new mild flat tappet cam kits are under 200 bucks, get a new one

If you wanted a roller cam and roller lifters i have that for a 89 L98

 

I did it in my cousins firebird, still running strong after 40k..

 

yeah but i dont see why you would want to do that when new better cams are available over mid 80's tech. oh well, bump for you

Guess what, a L98 F-car prom for 1985 does NOT exist. You could possibly use one for a L98 Vette though.

 

Forgot about that, i just assumed 85 L98 you mean vette L98. Why do you need a 85 cam and prom to do a 350 swap?
you probly can run a 87-89 L98 prom with flat tappet cam of similar size to the L98 85 cam. Your probly never gonna find one with lifters so might as well consider roller L98 like factory or new flat tappet. Super tight budget i can understand but your doing a motor swap and cant drop like 150 bucks for a new cam? cam seems to be the smaller part of the whole investment

else check out corvette forum for those parts as they had L98s in 85-86

 

Here is the problem.

I am swapping the TPI setup from my 305 to the 350, but the wrong lifters were used in the 350. The guy said it SHOULD be ok as long as hydraulic flat tappet are used (It's a '72 engine), but I've been told I need an L98 350 specific cam and an ECM/prom to match. That's what I've been basing all my searching off of. Now I'm getting several different stories and TBH, at this point I have NO CLUE what lifters, what cam and what ECM/Prom I want to be using. I was under the impression that the cam from my 305 wasn't a good idea.

What about CompCam 12-388-4, new set of lfat tappet lifters from summit and a 1985 corvette (L98) ECM?

 

Could start a new thread for this but that setup will work just fine with just about any L98 prom if its a MAF system. SD may need some tuning but that cam is about same size as stock L98 cams and should work

IF all your doing is a basic 350 swap to make your car just like a factory L98, then yes use that flat tappet cam with new flat tappet lifters and a ECM/Prom for fbody L98. year depends on what your car is. What year is your 305 TPI car? reuse the stock MAF if its MAF and ECM, just get a PROM for a L98 car it will run fine. heck you could go up one size on the cam with MAF system and still run ok
