Dana 44 parts

I am looking for basically everything for a Dana 44 other than the housing that’s all I have.
also have rear cover. Any leads or parts that will work. Pretty sure any Dana 44 carrier will work?

Love seeing stuff like this come up. How did you come across the bare housing with no internals? Pretty cool either way, sure the parts are out there somewhere!

Is that from Chris H? He never would send pix of the pinion area that needed work. Wondering what that area looks like?

You should be able to cross most, if not all, the list of parts that GM used and get current parts to get it fixed right up.

I am still working on mine, but I have some of the cross numbers.

I think finding a yoke and axles will be the most difficult parts to get. I can't find a catalog replacement for the yoke, yet. I would like to get something forged, but I what I have will work for now

I also want a true track for mine. I am almost tempted to sell you my carrier now with the gears I have

Re: Dana 44 parts

Should be fairly easy to cross those with google or any parts store. Maybe even spicers tech department could help. Think moser may still have axle info to make new ones.

Find a complete rear out of a jeep complete. Axles are not tapered and can be cut to size and resplined by Moser they fixed my axles nicely and I listed lengths in the Dana thread listed - should be easy if housing can be repaired nice that Dana 44s are common (except third gen variety!) I'd get a 370 or lower gear with the OD 6 speed

^^^ This.

However, make sure you know what you are getting if you go this route. The D44 was made in a wide variety of configurations over the last 75-ish years. Some 44's only have as little as 10 spline axle shafts with some as many as 32. Some older D44's will have an offset pumpkin in the rear due to transfer case output shaft locations. Also, a 2007+ D44 out of a Jeep will not work since they increased the size of the ring gear and pinion gear.

Best bet for going this route would be to shoot for something from the late 80's to mid 90's.

The one where you asked about adapting a jeep 44 axle housing to a third gen ? I did post in there. I don't think the D44 is a worthwhile upgrade to go through the trouble of making a jeep axle fit, but if you already have the 3rd gen specific housing and just need the guts that is a different story IMO.

Mopar guy may know what a dana 44 cover looks like ;-)..
Dana cover has a pipe plug in it.
9bolt has a rubber plug in it
10 bolt has no plug in the cover.

I have a complete NOS Dana 44 rear. Still in the box for an f body. it would save you a lot of work. Not cheap, but you'll never see another.

Re: Dana 44 parts

Might be a day late and a dollar short with this but I've a GM parts list for the D44. It's been posted here and elsewhere a few times over the years. Most of the items are of course discontinued however with the right PN, searching for what you need might be a little easier.
I've got other D44 lists as well having rebuilt mine a couple of times.

Re: Dana 44 parts

FWIW: Yukon Gear and Axle has a D44 listing for the 3rd gen Camaro. This is where my latest gear set came from.

https://www.yukongear.com/diffdetail...na%2b44%2bRear

Most of the other bits came from Drive Train Specialists.

I did a quick look around for "Dana axle Camaro".
Found this:

I also know of a few here at 3rd gen that have Moser axles. Apparently they have specifications to build what you need.
As for Dutchman above, the specs on their website appear to match.
Either of those might get you on your way.

Re: Dana 44 parts

I think original is unlikely. And undesirable IMO. My D44 came out of life time race car and most of these diffs have probably lived a hard life. Not sure if originals are the way to go if aftermarkets versions are available.

Re: Dana 44 parts

Yeah. I saw that. What a gyp.

FYI: Something I've come across in the D44 world is that there are two distinct methods used in the 3rd gen axle bearing fitment. It has to do with how the brake backing plate and bearing retainer fit together.
The conversation starts around post #100 is this thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...ts-list-2.html
I can't say (of the top of my head) is if it's a distinction between the axles or something different with the axle tube ends.

Re: Dana 44 parts

Keep in mind that the axles are different left and right. There also appears to be a difference between early and late editions of the 3rd gen specific D44.
That said, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if the distance wasn't so great. (Plus I don't jump the queue in someone else's thread!)

Re: Dana 44 parts

This is what I've learned. Much of it from the D44 parts list thread.
Early versions of the housing have axle flange ends that are flush. That is, they have no shoulder to register the caliper mount. They were, I believe, designed to work with the Delco iron calipers.

This is an early version axle end. The order of parts assembly on the axle is different between new (PBR caliper) and older (Delco caliper) versions.

Later versions have a pronounced lip on the axle flange so that the caliper mount fits around it. Then the axle assembly (with retaining plate, seal, bearing and lock ring) is installed. I have no picture of this one although this later version is what I have.
Part numbers for the axles are different left and right. I also think (but would have to confirm) that the axles themselves between new and old versions are also different.
