Hello-I want a Dana 44 rear axle. Any ratio any condition, but must be rebuildable. GM was selling them with fire sale prices back in the day. thanks, Frank

Re: Dana 44
Honestly, what are you trying to do with your build? With the amount of money you'd be spending trying to find a Dana 44, just go and buy a S60 and be done with it. Unless you don't need it right now, you're probably going to be searching for a Dana 44 for a VERY long time. If you still want to hunt for one here is what you need to do:
Dana 44's are almost impossible to find just sitting there. When you do find one they usually go for a pretty penny or are snatched up quickly. If you have a lot of patience, try looking at as many junkyards around you for thirdgens and see what rear ends are in them. IIRC they used Dana 44's as a warranty replacement for a bit back in the day so some random cars may just have it in the yard. You could also look at craigslist and offerup for thirdgens and ask the posters for a picture of the rear end. See if they'll part em out or if not get a good deal on the car, drop the rear end, put a stock 9 or 10 bolt in its place, and resell vehicle at a chance to make all your money back.
Happy hunting. I wish you luck in whichever avenue you choose.

Re: Dana 44
Back in the day to me, dana 60 was a mopar thing.
Strange does make a bolt in dana 60 for the F-body these days but really overkill for 90% of these cars.
The dana 44s are out there and I've seen several in the last few years still in the shipping containers with 82-88 brakes and all. Just be ready to jump on them when you see them because they go fast.
