Welcome aboard.
Wow, an old-school 283, right down to the heads. Hope you can develope a little bit of torque with that combo.
You're going to need some decent stall to get that thing moving. 3000 RPM is probably not overkill. Smaller diameter Vigilante or Continental (probably not spelled right) would be the ticket. Check the tranny and driveline forum for a dude called Pro Built Automatics - he's a tranny specialist who carries both of those products.
You didn't give us the right info off the rear. There's a three-character code (number & letters) stamped on the passenger side axle tube that contains that info. The best way to know for sure, though, is to remove the cover and see how many teeth are on the pinion and ring gears.
Any idea how you're going to mount accessories? Camel humps don't have accessory holes on the ends. Don't suppose you'd consider World Products S/R Torquer 305's at this stage - much better heads for a small bore engine.
Good luck. Keep us up to date.

84 Z28 Camaro Convertible Engine Swap
I have already put the little bugger together and the .080 bore bring it to 3.955 Bore and 3.00 stroke. I just need to finish the tranny 700r4 with a lock up kit and stall speed, which ever I can find not sure on which stall speed I need. Im going without the computer stuff thats why I got a old HEI distributor and Avenger 670, plus I have flat top piston theat will prevent it further from interfering the pistons and walls. When I got the heads rework I had the machine shop put the holes for the accessories (AC, ALT bracket), so that will not be a problem. Im not looking to race, just to have a little bite if the moment present itself...
This is a conversion 84 Z28 Camaro that I see is not real popular around here. "SORRY" I was 22 when I bought it, and it was a woman go getter
All Recommendation is highly appreciated.
Thanks: David

I think they were bagging more on the chop jobs.....there are some pretty critical people on the boards...you just have to take what you can use and throw the rest away.
I had a 283 in a 1958 chevy stepside shortbox "Apache".
Loved that truck..painted candy apple red, Oh the highschool days....Sounds like you are well on your way to a great ride.
I love my 327...revs to beat hell, but the stock stall causes me alot of problems on the street...I also need a 3000 stall, but I also need some $$$$. Hey good luck and keep your progress posted...
