Larger valves on a 305

I am looking to add a new set of heads sometime in the future. I came upon a thread that stated that I could run ANY heads with 2.05 intake valves and matching exhaust valves as long as I keep under X amount of lift. If I stayed under that lift, I would not have problems with valve shrouding. Can anyone confirm this?

my car, engine, and mods are listed in my sig

Thanks,
Matt

The bore of the 305 block isn't big enough. The valve will hit the block. If you kept the lift low enough to keep the valve from hitting, the lift would be less than what you have now.

Thanks stephen, I'll probably just go with a set of milled vortecs or the torquer 305's

I have not verified if 2.05 intakes can fit, but I have personally looked up through the crankshaft valley at 2.02/1.60 and they fit flawlessy. The shrouding doesnt even become an issue until lifts past .550" roughly.

I am not doubting you or anything, but if I did go with the larger valves and had clearancing issues, could I just put smaller valves in? Sorry for my ignorance, but my knowledge of the internals of a motor still has much room to grow!

No you would have larger seats for the 2.02/1.60 valves so you couldnt go to a 1.94/1.5 valve setup because it wouldnt seal properly.

Sure you could. Seat inserts.

Just get the Torquers. Only aftermarket heads out there made specifically for the 305.
