Late 80's truck 350 4-bolt - one question
Late 80's truck 350 4-bolt - one question
I can get a late 80's truck 350 4-bolt motor and I was wondering if I would need to run the balancer and flexplate off my L98?
Other balancer/flexplate?
If so would the serpentine belt setup still work?
I'm in GA so A/C is mandatory for this street car.
Thanks!
Ernie

You should be able to use the balancer thats on the truck. If the truck engine has a two piece rear main you will need to use the flexplate as well.
Your brackets from your L98 might not bolt up to the heads on the truck block. You still might be able to use them with some modification. I'm sure someone around here has done it before.

I will not be using the truck heads, I plan on some kind of aftermarket head instead.
Does anyone know if this motor would be a roller motor?
The only thing I know for certain is the motor has 4 bolt mains, has a 1 piece rear main seal, and came from a truck.
Appreciate your help.

Pull the intake manifold. If you see bolt bosses on top of the center oil galley, it's a roller block. Those bosses may or may not be machined & tapped, however.
An '86 could have the one-piece rear main seal, but would not be roller. '87-later will also be one-piece, but being a truck, may or may not be roller-ready.

Is this the roller setup?

If the motor has the holes in the middle tapped already I'm good to go right?
Thanks!

Yes, and yes.
The cam retention has to be machined and tapped on the front of the block as well.
