engine durability

will the newer engines like the lt1 and ls1 last longer than the older style l98 and lg4's? would buying an lt1 with 80k miles on it be worth it? or would it just blow up pretty soon? my old 305 lasted about 113k of abuse from other people before it blew up and i bought it. whats the highest mileage engine you would trust for a swap or just buying a used lt1 camaro or firebid.

Why not get it machined and built properly after you buy it? Unless you really need it in a car right now, I'd save up and do it the right way.

can you just buy an lt1 short block and transfer the stuff off the old lt1 onto it and then swap it in? or will it still run bad from high mileage? if so how much would a lt1 short block cost?

Seeing Paxton-huffed or sprayed LT1 & LS1's running 12's at this altitude, with nothing else done to them, I'd have to say they're pretty durable. Of course, past maintenence is always a factor.

I'd agree they're fast, but only if they're still running a year from now they get called durable.

170k miles and still going strong. 305 TBI. It really depends on how its been taken care of. We bought it with 75k miles or so on it.

Not an expert, but from what I have heard lt1s dont last an incredible amount of time. I dont know if that would be because of compression or if that even plays a role but that is just what I heard. Dont know on ls1 but it is totaly different than an lt1.

My Lt1 has 130-140k miles. Running 13.8 with 2.73 rear and Cooper Cobra Tires ! Still pulling strong. Best engine I had so far ...

my friend has a 97 z28 and his lt1 blew at 60k. he raced practically 24/7 though that had to have something to do with it. i just dont want to buy an engine with 100k on it and then have it crap out.
