305 Police Interceptor engine

I am able to get a 305 engine from a 60 something police interceptor. I was unable to find any information about this engine. I also was told by the person selling this that it was a 300-350 hp engine.

Can anybody verify this? And does anyone know if this would swap into my car? I was unable to find any info in any past posts.

thanks

No 60s 305s.... the 305 was introduced in 76 IIRC...

find out what this really is before you bite. This "interceptor" thing seems to have taken on the status of "Vette", "Vortec", "Rocket", etc. - one of those words people toss around when they lack facts.

Ignore the buzzword BS. Get the block casting # which will tell you what CID it probably is, and a head casting # which will tell you whether those are any good. The assembly is no better than the sum of its parts.

There was never a 'Police Interceptor' 305.

The only thing I can think of that had the interceptor distinction was the Dodge/Plymouth Interceptor 318. And that was in the mid/late 70's....
I should know that because my dad did buy a 75 Plymouth cop car that had the rear end smashed up.... He bought the car on the condition they rebuild the rear end and have it repainted (gag) brown.
The nice thing about the motor was that it was excellent on gas, (even with a heavy foot...) and kept going and going. Very well designed engine. (But quick, not FAST)
But that is the only 3xx ci that I have ever heard of with that distinction, and it was only because it was formerly a cop car. I don't think the engine had the "Interceptor" distinction, it was the car itself. A 2-door cop car I guess would be called that. I am not sure.
Correct me if I am wrong please.

Every manufacturer offered a "law enforcment" product. I used to have a Olds Delta 88 2dr equipped witha "law enforcment" package. It included: 455 4 bbl, Turbo 400, tranny cooler, p/s cooler, a/c, pw, pdl, HD suspension (frt and rear sway bars), 3.08 posi rear (12 bolt). The car was kind of a mess, because the roof was a little rusty from the holes in the roof for lights and antennas. That's all I can remember, it was my first car, that was like........15 years ago

Depending on the department ordering the vehicle you could get a small block ie 307 (meter maid) and go up from there.... As long as the vehicle passed the yearly testing by major police depts. it was a choice. The ones that did "best" in all around testing were the ones that wound up in major cities....
