Also with a steel sleeve shaft you dont need the plastic one installed on the pump correct? Is is normal for it to fit with little or no resistance.....

I'm pretty sure the stud gets screwed in finger tight, but make sure to screw it all the way in. Check the torque for the nut, I don't remember what it should be. Maybe the stud manufacturer has a recommendation. There's a chance the stud manufacturer specs out stud stretch instead of torque - but I'm guessing.

I used a steel sleeve also on my motor. Yeah, it just sort of dropped in place. Use some wheel bearing grease to hold it in place if you plan to rotate the motor on a stand (otherwise, it'll fall out)

every oil pump stud i ever put it extended into the space taken up by the bearing, check this without the bearing in and grind it off as required. i put them in with maybe 20 ft/lbs, used red loctite on it too. the steel oil pump drive shaft sort of falls on, no resistance and doesn't require the plastic sleeve, that's the idea behind using it, to elimnate the plastic sleeve.
