Looking at my 5.0 and the rod sticking out of the oil pan

My wife killed the 5.0 last week so I'm looking for a few ideas what to replace it with. Thought about a 5.7 but I'm not sure. Want to keep it cheap and easy like some women I know, but I want to stir up a few more ponies in the process. Any ideas??

Since you're basically looking at a longblock, a 5.7 meets all of your criteria.

Why stop at 350? Bigger is better, after all.

whats "cheap"
Its hard to do both. Sure you can find a local 350 truck engine cheap.

Search www.car-part.com and you can find a reasonably priced low mileage 96+ Vortec 350 truck engine for under $1000. Replace the cam and you will have a nice running engine for reasonable cost. A low mileage original engine will outlast most cheapy rebuilt engines. You will need the Vortec TPI base to go with that engine and probably some used LT1 injectors to meet the fuel needs of that 350. But for less than 2k you can be pulling a 100hp over stock 305 TPI.

Thanks for the input you guys, but I've decided to stick with the 305 to save some time and money. Between all the brackets, water pump, burning a new PROM and everything that money could go for better use on for the 305. Any ideas for the 5.0 would be appreciated.
