Ok, I'm open to suggestions now. . .

I've been considering the build up of the engine for my project car and I'm not sure that I'll be able to achieve my goals. I originally wanted (still do) a 427 small block that is naturally aspirated. It would be an aftermarket block, either the Rocket Block or a Dart block with a 4.125" bore and a 4.000" stroke, very high flowing heads, EFI/DFI, and a custom ground cam to make power between 2000-7000 RPM with a smooth idle. My intentions were for this engine to make at least 550 HP and 500 lb ft of torque at the wheels. Now I know I've left a few variables out of the equations such as the 1 7/8" headers with a custom exhaust, moser 12 bolt, T56, Jesel shaft mounted rockers, not to mention a ton of other goodies, but I'm still not sure if the engine would possess the power marks I have set.

Primary function of the car will be a weekend toy, maybe occassional autox driving for fun and it will very rarely see the dragstrip.

I'm also now considering a 427 LS6 to try and make that kind of power which I think would possibly be attainable.

So I'm just looking for some input of more experience engine gurus. Thanks.

(This is just to certify that I'm not crazy and I am fully aware of the cost and work this car will take to be completed. )

My first suggestion would be to put it in something else beside a 3rd gen. Honestly, don't waste such a combo on a car worth so little. That was part of the mistakes I made, too.

For some reason I was expecting an answer like that, lol. I actually had considered getting an 80 or 81 Vette to use as the project but something just told me to stick with the firebird. I'd eventually like to get an 82 Vette as daily driver and have the firebird as my weekend toy and that's the plans I'm sticking with. But I do thank you for your input.

How's the car coming along BTW? I haven't seen anything about it in a while.

OK.... Maybe I'm still living in the dark ages, but isn't a LS6 a 454? Or is that what they call a hoped up LS1 like in the ZO6?

AJ, where ya been man? lol. The ZO6 engine is called the LS6 now. But you're right. It's basically gen III LS1 with a different intake, heads, and cam I believe.

Under a rock..... ya got a problem with that?

Better than calling it an LS5 I guess, right?
