I had a ZZ4. Good engine with strong mid-range pull. Get's a heavy car moving. Responds well to headers and exhaust. Cam is a little mild though and could use a little more emphasis on Hp.

Overall the ZZ4 is not worth the money. There are better deals out there. Especially in 383 stroker engines.

If I had it to do over again I would get a ZZ4 short block instead of the crate. I think it is a good deal for a new four bolt block, forged crank, PM rods. then I would get some AFR heads and a HOT cam.

No. It runs out of breath on the top end. It's a good engine but it's mild mannered. For some people it's a perfect match. Personally I would rather have a more rowdy engine with more Hp.

I agree with Polecat. If 385 horsepower isn't enough for you, GM claims that with the addition of a HOT cam and 1.6 rockers, that engine is good for 425 horsepower. If that still isn't enough horsepower for you, check out the Scoggin Dickey web site. IIRC they have a 350 that's good for around 465 horsepower.

Check out sdpc200.com and look for custom performance engines and then drag race/pro street. Scoggin Dickey calls that engine a ZZ465.:hail:
