engine swap, what do i need?
i will be swapping my tired old lg4 for a 350 very soon, 3-4 weeks if all goes well. is there any special thing i will need to swap the engine, i have a 1000lb hoist to get the engine out and in. but how hard is it to swap?? i am a beginner on cars and im no wear near an expert or a mechanic. but i dont have enough money to have it put in. it costs about 500 bucks and my engine will only be 375 at the most. i dont have a computer because i have an edelbrock carb so i dont have to worrie about all that stuff. is there anything special about unhooking the tranny?? or will i just be able to tell by looking? i have a set of ramps to get the front end up a bit. i have somebody that is going to help me but he wont be there the whole time. also my last question is how long does it usually take? my t/a is my daily driver so she has to be back on her feet a.s.a.p. thanks alot for your help
swapping a 305 to a 350 should be very easy. all you need is a hoist and the regular tools. one thing that you will have to watch out for is when you take the computer you will lose your torque converter lookup, you can buy a kit to fix it or i think there is a tech article on how to make your own. I am not sure but i think you will lose your fan control maybe to, but you can wire that up pretty easy also. Time, even if your not experienced it should go fairly quick. I did a V6 to a V8 swap in a week and a half and it was running, then it took me weeks of tunning it off and on to get it just right. You might be able to do the whole swap in a long weekend once you get all the wiring done and stuff. It will be well worth it, Good Luck!!
