Great deal on a 88 Now want to swap motors!!
I also just got a great deal on a 88 firebird 2.8, I had talked to the guy and he said he would trade me straight up for my 91 saturn which was worth it to me because it has 202,000 miles on it and was about ready to go. but it still looked good. The Firebird is extremely solid but needs a door and a fender, he brushed up against something. no biggie.
But i have a 355 sitting in my garage, and i know some of the things needed to make the swap, I have the tranny, T5 from a different firebird. and i have a donor car for the mounts, springs, fan, but i am not sure on what to do when in comes the the electrical part of the job.
I planned on running a mechanical fuel pump..and ill just run my fans to the fuse box to make it come on with the key. But what do i have to do with the computer so my guages and eveything work or could i just take the cluster out and buy guages to replace them with that are mechanical driven??? What would i have to do to just eliminate the computer all together
Please respond ASAP, I appreciate it

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe

Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
just pull the ECM, your gauges will still function
as for the fuel pump, all you need is a 3 port AFPR, and leave the MPFI pump in there

your gauges wont have to be changed at all. they are not connected to the computer in any way at all. just connect them to the appropiate sensor on the engine. should be a really easy swap. Good luck!!
if your getting a used door and fender get different colored ones..
so that way it will look like a beater but it will have the 355 t5 in it and woop up on some unsuspecting people!!
good luck with the swap..
