400 starter problem
i need help. today i was working on my 408 and i found that the starter from my 305 doesn't clear the new flywheel. the flywheel is a 168 tooth McLeod flywheel. if the flywheel is off of the motor, then the starter will bolt up to the block. now that the flywheel is on, it won't fit. my question is, is there another starter that i can get that will fit, or can i get the nose of the starter i have now replaced with a smaller one? any suggestions would be great. thanks

If you have a 168-tooth flywheel, then any starter for a Turbo 350 or 400 Chevy will work.
Go to a parts store and get a starter part # 3510-S.
Only problem is, the flywheel you have, and that starter, won't fit in the F-body bell housing.

A 700 doesn't have a discrete bell housing.
The issue isn't bolting to the motor.
Trust me, it's different from any other. Real different. The trans mounting patern is rotated about 20° clockwise as viewed from the front of the car.
