To get the most out of the 305 TPI (LB9)
How much Horsepower would this yield I was hoping in the 270 range..... World SR Torquer 305 Heads, Hoocker Comp Shorties into Dual 2-1/2 inch exhaust, and a Comp cams with a ruff grind maybe 262H, I am Shooting for 270 horse.

i'd have the world heads ported and polished and you'd definately hit 270-300 HP with that 262XE cam. Kinda similar to what i'm doing

TPI tends to knock down the power output of an engine vs. what it will make with a carb. A couple of years ago, Popular Hot Rodding magazine took a fresh .030-over 305 TPI with "near-to-stock" Comp roller cam, and compared stock heads w/3-angle valve job to Worlds with pocket porting. It dyno'd at 190 HP with stock heads and 240 HP with the Worlds. More cam and aftermarket runners, ported plenum, fully ported heads, and some PROM/fuel pressure tuning should produce 275 HP or more without too much trouble.
"Rough grind" and TPI probably won't play well together. Let Comp know what you're trying to build, they'll hook you up with a cam that will work with the computer. They'll probably also recommend what runners to use and the converter stall to have if you ask.

I bolted on a set world products s/r torquers 305,1.5 roller tip rockers, a new comp cam #12-556-4(this is a nitrous grind), a set of hedman headers and y pipe, and a afpr. Everything on top stayed pretty much stock and I did notice a big gain on top end. I lost a good amount down low but with a new stall and maybe some 3.73 gears it would go real good for a 305. My car stock has 3.23 gears and I never did run nitrous and I never did get it dynoed, but I can tell you I gained roughly 6-8 mph in the 1/8 mile.
I'm not a motor guru but I think with some work on the intake and runner side and maybe some porting you would be impressed. I thought it pulled extremely wel from 3000- 6000 rpm. Just make sure if you turn it high to have a strong bottom end, that was my problem and now I'm redoing it again. Oh well its fun right.
