700 Dollar budget what to do?
Ok hi i don't know what to do! I have a 1984 Z28 LG4 Carbed car. I want to get this rebuilt 400ci motor for $450 out a truck i found in the junkyard. The motor runs and the i checked the oil for milky substance and everything seems fine but here is the big question how hard is it to do a motor swap like if i took a week off work can somone never touched a motor before put it in and rewire the gauges that will have to be redone when removing the computer? can somone give me the exact gauges that need to be rewired when i remove the computer? and how hard is it i mean i think i can do the put the new engine in but i am afraid of the wire harnees and cutting the wrong thing and screw everything up. the hardest thing i have ever done to my car was install a B&M mega shifter and that was easy. i wanted to use the 250 left and put a XE274 cam in but will i still have good brakes? i also have everything for a complete duel exhaust setup sitting in my room all 2 1/2" stuff. Headman Coated Headers, S-Bends, 8foot of Tubing, 2 Flowmaster 40 series race mufflers, and 2 1/2 Stainless tips for side exit. anyone in the hampton roads area willing to help me do this swap will be greatly apreciated i am willing to learn i want to do it by myself but i know thats not going to happen since i have never touched a motor before. I still don't know if the engine i am planing on buying is any good so if theres anyone in hampton roads that would like to go with me and check it out cause i don't know anyone who has a compression checker or what to look for. i am basically looking for somone that would like to help me with my project somone knoledgeable to show me the way. Thanks
honestly....save your money!
engine swaps are alot more than just the engine to make things run smooth.
700 isn't nearly enough to cover yourself if you run into problems. i'd look to other modifications personally.
good luck with it.

And while your saving up your money start doing some research. Read books, car magazines, talk to people, read the forums, etc. Do some homework for when you do have money for a motor swap, you'll know what to do. Good luck!
