Putting a 305TBI in a 92 RS
I found a 1992 RS Camaro with a perfect body, has a 6 cylinder in it. My buddy whom drives a 1989 Iroc Z is changing engines out of his Iroc which is a 305 TBI. Is this worth doing or should I just find a car with the motor already in it. This RS is perfect in and out, the car has 142K miles on it so it is is gonna need a new motor anyway. BTW this motor is free. Also I thought that 6 cylinder camaros had single exhuast? This car has stock dual exhuast and its a 6 cylinder. Well thanks for any opinions or experiences you have had.

The exhaust has a pipe coming from each side of the engine, which is joined into one pipe on the passengers side before going into the cat. It's a single pipe from there back to the muffler, which has two outlets. It really isn't dual exhaust.
Something isn't quite right with the V8 story. TBI didn't come out until 1988, so if the '86 has it, someone has put it on. Could be TPI, though.
Technically, it isn't legal to put an older engine into a newer body.
The V6 to V8 swap takes a lot more than the motor. The transmissions are different, the radiators are different, the entire exhaust is different, the tach is different, the motor mounts go to a different place on the frame, etc., etc., etc. You really need a factory V8 "donor car" to get all that you need to do the swap. Just having an engine from a Camaro won't get it done.
My advice would be to pass on the V6 car and look for one with the engine that you want.

I know about the exhuast, I should have said that the car had two tail pipes. This car sure has a good body and its only 2900.00 I mean this thing is perfect its Red with orig everything. Power nothing. Are you sure this cant be done?

just a correction five7.............90-92 v6's had the same radiators as V8's (look up the part number)

still not worth it really, although i am doing it, so if you can find a V8 car, you'll be that much more ahead
i've seen a gazillion 3rd gens for less the $3000 with V8s and in great shape

$2900 is waaaayyyyy toooo much to spend for a V6 3rd gen that you will just start tearing apart for a V8. Spend a little more on what you want.

I paid $450 for my 6 cylinder. It had 219,000 miles on it when I got it. I've driven it for 6K miles now. If I end up keeping it, I'm gonna be putting a v8 in it. It would be for drag racing only basically. If you want a v8 car to drive everyday you can definetly find a nice one for $2900.
