Scat 4130 Crank
Needs a opinion on this Scat 4130 Steel Crankshaft, A machine shop has one for sale at a ($325.00) reasonable price. He say that it will fit 5.7 or 6.0 rods and Internally Ballance. What is the downside/upsize of cranks that will fit both 5.7 and 6.0 rods and Scat Cranks in general.

A crank does not care what the rod length is, as long as it's possible to fit the counterweight between the center of the crank and the bottom of the piston when the piston is all the way down in the bore. That's why a 400 crank, for 5.565" rods, is different: the counterweights have to have a bunch of metal shaved off of them to fit under the pistons. So there's no particular up side or down side to that as such, it just means that it's not "flat cut" as people sometimes say for the 5.565" rods.

I stay away from anything made in CHINA, that's why there so cheap, I'd rather pay twice that and get something USA made. I've seen way too many bad castings made in China for me to ever trust a crank made there.

The reason why im so high on Scat is because David Vizard has used them in a lot of engines that he build and he highly recommend them. Eagle has such a High tolerence of the crank being off I would not use it. I have seen Eagle cranks new out the box have to be turned 10/10. I dont plan on spinning my SBC 408 over 5500 so I believed I can get away with the Scat 9000 crank, 6" Eagle ESP Rods and Wiseco Forge Pistons for the bottom end. Cast Cranks can last up too 600hp so I dont need to spend a ton of money on a Oliver/Callies forge crank for a street engine that might see the track about 3-4X a year. I rather take that money and invest in the AFR heads. Im shooting for about 475-500 hp with this engine so there is no reason to be extreme with it. I feel that the above bottom end will hold up under my condition that I plan on using for this engine. The reason that I ask about this specific crank is that I seen one on Ebay for reasonale price and thought it would be a nice up grade over the Scat 9000.
