lt1 conversion + external oil cooler

I'm converting my 87z with the LT1, I have the hard lines that run along side the motor. The lines are machined clamped to a hose's. I'm using the stock 3rd gen radiator and want to use an external oil-to-air radiator. The question is - is can I use hose clamps to attach the hoses to the oil cooler? or would I have to have the hose's machine clamped on?
any info would be great.

I know hose clamps worked for me, not sure if they are DOT approved or anything though.

I'm alittle unsure. i did the oil-cooler before to another motor but I didn't care that much for the motor. w/ the lt1 i've put in a lot more $$ and was wondering. on the lt1 i'm running 10.5:1 vs the other motor which was 8.5:1.

which throttle cable are you using? i'm converting from carb and was also wondering

thanks for the reply

I bought a stock TPI style Throttle cable. Works well.

I want to use the external oil cooler as well. My LT1 came with the fitting and the hoses. On the LT1 cars, did the hoses go to an actual oil cooler or to the sides of radiator?

from which year car.
I had the biggest problem finding a power steering pressure line. but then came across the 95 impala ss and with NO modification at all - THIS one worked GREAT.

My caprice LT1 had a large radiator with fittings for a built in oil cooler.

I think I just ordered a 1990 TPI throttle cable.

I am a little confused here about the oil coolers on the Caprice.
Does oil flow through the lines to the radiator or does coolant flow from the radiator into the oil filter fitting to cool the oil?
I am hoping it it flows oil from the fitting so I can use an external cooler to cool the oil.

on my lt1 the adapter was set in between the motor and the oil filter. the oil (from the way i C it) would exit the motor into the adapter then makes it's way thru the line to the cooler; cycle thru the cooler then into the line back to the adaptor and then into the oil filter(cycle thru the filter) and back into the motor- hope this helps

Ya, mine looks that way too. I was just reading something in another section about oil on the 3rd gens being cooled by radiator fluid. I just wanted to make sure.

lt1 oil cooler differences

the oil cooler on f-body (camaro/firebird) lt1 motors has coolant from the water pump flowing to the oil filter adpater (installed between oil filter and block) and the oil cooler on b-body (caprice/impala ss) has oil lines running to the driver side of the radiator in with oil flow to to rad to be cooled on police car caprices (9c1 option code) have a external oil cooler in front of the rad on these cars the oil flows to this external cooler and back to the oil filter adapter. this also makes the water pumps different as f-body water pumps have a spot to hook up the hose to the oil filter adapter.

Ok, I have a 9C1 engine, so all I need is the cooler then.
Cool, thanks for the info.
