what can i use from my original engine

i was looking at this engine, http://www.golensengineservice.com/v...cfm?EngineID=6

to keep it cheap, i would like ot re-use whatever i can that i have on the 305. what would i be able to keep and what would i have to reuse? could i reuse the intake manifold and throttle body just for the time being? the headers? would the mounts line up? would the tranny line up? what about the electronics? i really need help if i'm going to pull this off. thanks a lot in advance

What can I use?

I did a motor swap in my 84 T/A a few years ago. A near deceased 305 for a '69 327. I used all the front accessories off the 305 as the 327 is a short water pump engine. The motor you are looking at ( nice choice btw) is a long water pump engine so I would think you could do the same. As for using the intake and throttle body...hmmm...I would venture to guess that the setup would not be very well calibrated for the 383. I believe the 383 requires at least 750 cfm of carb to run properly. And yes....the exhaust will bolt up with no problem. Although I would suggest a good header and y-pipe combo upgrade in the future.

Good luck with your project!

Pertaining to the TBI and intake working, you might want to go over to the TBI board and do some searches on similar topics. A 400hp stroker motor will be extremely choked and will run Extremely lean with a stock TBI and manifold on top of it. The stock 1 11/16" Throttle Body you have only flows about 400cfm and has 40pph injectors. That's barely enough to support a moderately built 305 let along a stroked 350. If you really want to stick with TBI in this swap you are going to need at least a Holley 670 or a 454 TBI unit with the big block injectors (90pph). Now that MAY flow enough for that motor but it hasn't been proven. Some say that theoretically it would flow enough, others disagree. That kind of power has never actually been supported by TBI in the real world. Maybe go on the TBI board and I think a few recent subjects are on the topic of a couple guys putting TBI on a 400sbc and a 383 like yours, check it out.
