383 Intake Options

I'm interesting in getting a 87-90 Trans Am/GTA and I want to completely revamp the drivetrain with a 383, a T-56 tranny, and a moser 12 bolt, oh and an aluminum driveshaft too. My question is if I'm going to be using this car as a daily driver what's the most sensible intake to use? I could do TPI, carb, or this sweet Holley Superram system I have my eye on. I think the MPFI system they make would be the best for fuel economy AND power right? Another thing, what kind of airbox and stuff could I use to let enough air into that kinda setup? I'm shooting for 450hp or so to the flywheel, maybe 12mpg or so? Haha you're probably laughing, but I actually have no idea, that's why I'm asking!

Is a well rebuilt T-56 a good choice too? I don't want something that can't handle all that torque! I'm pretty sure the 12 bolt rear is sufficient, sure costs a LOT. Hope to hear some responses soon. Later fellas

For gas mileage dont run a carb. Run TPI if you are on a budget and the Stealth ram if you have some money to throw around. 450 horsepower shouldnt be a problem with the right cam and heads, and on the freeway i am sure you will pull over 20 mpg on the freeway easy with a fuel injection setup and that T-56.

As for the rearend and trans, don't worry. THe T-56 can handle just about anything you throw at it, provided it is in good order. THere are some T-56s out there that are being just used and abused and they don't skip a beat. THe Moser rear is bullet proof. Order on with 30 spline axles and a strong Posi, and you will be good to go.

BTW its the Holley Stealth Ram. The SuperRam is made by Accel. I think you are interested in the Stealth Ram, and if not you should be it is much cheaper than the SuperRam. You mentioned something about a MPFI system. If you get a TPI equipped car than you should stay with the factoy ECM. IMO it will be better for you in the long run, not to mention cheaper up front. You can learn to tune your own PROMs to make life easier.

I would stay with an EFI system if I were you. Currently I run a TPI 383 and it has some *****, not even tuned very well.

Ya it is the Stealth Ram, but that IS a MPFI system, it supposed to be a direct fit on even the stock L98 though, so I'm gonna go for it. It has an option to be polished too, but its a LOT more expensive from thunderracing.com. Oh well, gotta have the best I suppose I'll get the holley fuel rails and adj. regulator too so I can tune. Still don't know what to do about the rest of the induction system, maybe any TPI stuff would work just the same, but my TB will be 58mm, hmmm so much to learn.

I ordered mine through Thunder but I got the none polished version. I am polishing the plenum myself. At first I thought you were going to buy the entire kit that Holley sells for the conversion. That includes TB, injectors, sensor, computer, wiring harness, etc. Its costs like $2200 and is unnecessary for you. I got the manifold and injector rails from Thunder for under $500.

Yes, any TPI stuff will work for the rest of the induction stuff, TB, injectors, sensors, etc. There are a few things that need to be changed. Do a search here and on the TPI board to get loads of info on this swap.
