for those you have the lt1...help

hey hey

my dad has a roadmaster which has the lt1 in it. just recently the engine has decided to not start.

it cranks and cranks but will not start. every once and a while it will start but dies almost immediately.

my dad has tested the fuel injectors and they all same fine. we are both at a loss as to what to do.

if anyone can help that would be very much appreciated !!

thanks

Kyle

My first thing I would check is DO you have fuel pressure?

i was just out checking things out: i turn the key to the "on" to prime the car, but not start it. went to the shrader valve and yes there was fuel there, so im assuming that fuel is not an issue since it is getting to the fuel rails. as far as i believe my dad has checked to see if any of the fuel injectors are failing electically or what not, but all are good. whether they are clogged i dunno.

i can't see any reasaon why the engine would not be getting air.

as for the spark i have no idea since i don't know too much about the opti-spark. i was under the car and changing the plug wires does not look like a walk in the park.

i hope this gives a little more info, and hopefully this helps in aiding a fellow car lover.

thanks again

Well you may have to pull a plug and crank the Motor and see if you are getting any spark. That will tell you where to go from here.

There's a good chance that your dad's optispark is dead, mine did the exact same thing, it would start once in a while and then die not too long after.

if its the opti-spark, what should he look for to see if this is true, and to replace it, is it hard to do and expensive?

thanks

There are many on Ebay at some pretty good prices.

Check to see if you have spark, if you don't check the coil, wires, if all test ok I'm thinking the Optispark or the ECM.

Now, to remove the Optispark, you have to , flush the rad, remove the waterpump, remove the crank pulley, and then you can access the optispark which is held in place with a few torque-head bolts.

To reinstall it is more tricky since you have to position the optispark right for it fit gear-shaft.
