It has been done by many people. Not a whole lot of modification is necessary, but it does require special parts. That's where it starts to get exspensive. Do a search and you'll find all you need to know.

I'm new to the board but I put a buick big block that I had laying around into a 83 berlinetta that was pretty much stripped down that my buddy gave to me cuz he wanted it out of his driveway. I put in a 430 buick engine and a th-400 transmission during my last spring break...that's right...nothing better to do but try and make fast cars. There's pictures of it on my site. It fit...barely...I might need to cut on stuff if I want headers...
I fabricated the transmission crossmember and torque arm mount. I also had to have a custom length driveshaft made for it, which was the most expensive thing about the swap or even the car so far being around $180. It's still just the stock buick engine for now but I plan on putting on better heads, intake, ect when I get some more cash.
