swapping tips

can anyone tell me what is going to happen when i swap my 305 with a 383. am i going to run into any major problems or should everything just bolt up. its a 305 TBI out of a 92 camaro. and i'm putting in a carb. 383 from a 78 chevy pickup. also if i bought a powersteering pump for that 78 pickup will it hook up to everything in my car just fine?

The external balancing of the 383 is going to cause you the most headaches. Most externally-balanced flywheels/flexplates are 168 tooth, which causes issues. I hope you have exhaust upgrades planned. And means to handle the additional power.

Buy accessories for the chassis, not the engine. If you need a power steering pump, get one that's an original replacement for your car.

All of the accesssory brackets will bolt right on to the new engine. They are the same block and the bolts on the heads should be in the same locations as the 305.

Depending on the power of the new engine, you may have to upgrade the fuel system. The 3/8" lines may not be enough. If you use the stock pump, you have to rewire it and get a regulator. If not, obviously you have to drop the tank or cut behind the seats. The stock fan probably won't be enough, I would get the dual fans. If you use a clutch fan you have to figure out how to mount it on the serpentine crank pulley (I'm assuming you won't be using the '78 accessories, if you do it'll cause a lot of issues). That's all I can think of right now..

The block has nothing to do with the power steering pump. The only thing that has to be the same is the mounting holes in the cylinder head and the block. And yes they are in the same locations. Fuel lines are pretty easy to change. Where are the ones that you need to change?
