Help with chip.. please

I am swapping my 305 TPI with a 350 TPI, I understand that I need to change knock sensor, injectors and the chip. Getting the 350 chip is what I have problem with. Seem like I need to have one burns specificly for this 350 engine. According to the engine code TPA, it is a 1992 350 motor used in a truck. Can anyone tell me where to go about for the chip???

If you are using your 87 TPI, I would just buy a stock GM chip for 88 350 until you get the swap up and running with no problems. Thats what I did when I swapped to a 350. You can change to a custom chip later, but for a new start up go with the stock GM chip.

Please clarify your suggestion.

The new 350 TPI is a 92 motor, my car is a 87. What the chip for '88 350 has anything to do with my situation???

The chip does not care what sheet metal the cast iron you have used to be wrapped in. You need to get a chip that suits your engine displacement, induction system, cam, and driving preferences.

A 92 truck doesn't have TPI. That chip won't work. It fails on 2 out of the 4 criteria listed above: induction system, and driving preferences.

Try DJP's suggestion. It should work well assuming that your TPI system is entirely the 87 stuff (MAF) with the original ECM. The reason for going with the 88 chip is because the programming for 88 is somewhat improved over the 87 code. Mechanically the 87 & 88 are the same.

Thx for the explaination. Still, I did check with GM dealers and they said they can't help me because there hundreds of different chips (???). Others have advised I get an 87 memcal for my swap. Can you (and anyone else) further my eduction.

Look around for a used one. Watch the classifieds on this site, they pop up there from time to time.

You might want to try your 305 chip and see if it works any better. If you have the right injectors for a 350, then the 305 fuel curve applied to a 350 through the larger injectors won't be too terribly far off even though not optimum, and the car should run at least OK if not up to its full potential.

If you have the complete 92 truck motor in there, heads and cam and all, underneath your TPI, you will be very lucky to get it to even run as strong as your old 305 did. I would not expect it to outrun a LB9 in any case. So don't think that there's necessarily something wrong if it just doesn't have much get up and go, especially above 3000 RPM, because of the extremely poor-flowing restrictive heads and non-performance cam used in those motors.
