305 Tpi To 383 Tpi?
OK RIGHT NOW I AM RUNNING A STOCK LB9 86 IROC. I HAVE A CHANCE TO BUY A SHORT BLOCK 350 4 BOLT MAIN. IS IT WORTH IT TO GET IT BORED OUT AND MAKE IT A 383 WHILE STILL KEEPING THE TPI? I ALSO HAVE TO FIND A SET OF HEADS.... I HAVE ABOUT 1500 TO WORK WITH AND AM GETTING DESPERATE. WOULD I BE BETTER OF JUST BUILDING THE 350? O BY THE WAY THE 350 IS 400 DOLLARS FOR THE SHORT BLOCK...GOOD DEAL OR NO? ANY INPUT GREATLY APPRECIATED....NEED THE HELP JUST AN INEXPERIENCED 16 YEAR OLD.:hail:

With that little money, you'll be stretching it just changing the short block out, with no rebulding or stroking at all.
I'd say just leave it alone and run it if it is runnable.
If you have to pay $400 for a core that needs rebuilt, that's way too much. A junk 350 is worth about $150 or so.
The extra 2 bolts on the mains won't make the tiniest bit of difference as long as you keep TPI on it. You'll never have to worry about too much power or over-revving it unless you floor the gas with it out of gear. As long as you shift it when it needs to shift, i.e. when you reach the RPM at which the car will go faster if it's in s lower gear, you'll never get within 1000 RPM of needing a 4-bolt block. Don't spend that much money on some old truck core just for that, it isn't worth it.
