Finished 305/Auto to 406/6speed Conversion

Well its finally done I have been waiting for years to do this to my car. I have pulled out the original 305 H.O. Motor and 700R4 and trasplanted a fully custom built 406ci motor with a Lt1/T56 6speed transmission. The project was pretty straight forward to begin I bought another 1984 Z28 that was a factory 5 speed 305 car. I did this to make sure that my swap was as trouble free and factory looking as possible. I was able to cut a hole in the floor and firewalls in the exact size and location as the factory five speed car. I also swapped all needed brackets, wiring harness, console pieces and shifter boot, the pedal assembly even the steering column from the 5speed car. The next tricky part was the bolting of the transmission to the 406 using the bigger style flywheel/clutch setup this would not work with the smaller bellhousing. Thus I installed a lakewood bellhousing and also modified it to work. I needed to modify the factory torque arm slightly to bolt up properly. I then need to have a driveshaft made to the length needed. The factory was too long with the adapter plate on the Rockland T56 and the Lakewood bellhousing. I also had a chance to do alot of painting and cleaning during this process and some welding and strengthening was also done to various spots on the cars underside. Well this gives you a idea of what I went through during my 2 week adventure.
To check out pics of my car and to see the specs on the setup check out my site.

That is a sweet car.
Ultimate drivetrain combo and wheel selection.

I'll be going with a 400/T56 on the Formula in a couple of years, I am still working on my 86 LT1 swap.

Coo coo, I don't have the 6speed though, and after today at the track, my inability to drive a 6speed its probably a good thing I don't have one.

What radiator are you using? I have the universal 31x19 griffith and the thing fits like #$%#@.

I am using a new single core gm aluminum radiator with the plastic cores like you would find stock in a car that came factory with dual electric fans.

It is rated to 450 ft lbs. of torque by GM, but has proven itself countless times past this mark
