LT1 Swap using TPI setup?
Is it possible to put a LT1 in a camaro, have the intake drilled for a computer controlled HEI, use the TPI throttle body or maybe even keep the LT1 throttle body and splice the sensor wires. This would save alot of trouble in a LT1 swap. Wouldn't have to worry about the computer looking for a 4l60E, wouldn't have to worry about dash wiring issues, and cheaper parts.
Would there be any down side?

You will be degrading the performance of the engine. Also the time and money spent on hardware will probably exceed the cost of a wiring harness.
Incidentally, you can run the LT1 with 700R4, however you will have to deal with the VSS.

My 91 has VSS, but probably would need an adapter to convert the pulses. It seems the LT1 computer would look for the 4l60e and not find it.
Not quite sure how the TPI computer would degrade performance if you burned a new prom for it. The LT1 is batch fire isn't it?
In my mind getting rid of the optispark would be a bonus, surely that wouldn't hurt performance. I cant really see the cost increase either, you can have a LT1 intake modded for a 350 for 200 dollars. Only other thing I can see costing is getting a prom burned for the setup.

If you use the LT1 PCM you will not need an adapter for your VSS. The LT1 PCM can also be reprogramed not to use the 4L60E so that should not be a consideration in your decision.
With the exception of a few early LT1's in 1993 most LT1s are sequtntial fuel injection. Converting to batch firing will degrade performance significantly as would a conventional distributor (opti is more accurate.)
To answer your question it is possible to have the LT1 intake prepared for conventional distributor. There are a lot of people who use the LT1 intake on their L98 engines. For what you are looking to do this might be a better option for you.

You may have issues with the camshaft when trying this on the LT1. I am not sure what, it any, changes were made to the engine when the rear distributor was eliminated.
Costwise if you already have the PCM, and complete LT1 why spend when you do not have to. The LT1 swap has been done many times here. There is a great sticky post "LT1 wiring for dummies." Give it a read. I think it will help you in your decision.

dennis6, for using the 700r4, you'll need to rewire the tranny's 5 prongs connector into your old 4 prongs connector. You will also need a 93 style trottlebody bracket to link the TV cable to the trottlebody.
Hope this helps !
