87 suburban 305 engine to a 89 camaro rs, possible?

i found a 87 suburban engine at a junk yard for 500 bucks, carburated. my current engine is a 305 TBI v8. i recently blew that engine up, it had 167k on it. is it possible o swap the suburban 305 into my camaro, and what kind of mods would i have to do to make the car work with the carb. is it possible to swap my old intake (edelbrock performer) and my old injectors to the new engine, and if so would thatr take alot of work. i have enough cash to buy the engine, thats about it. someone thought it would be funny to bash the back window out and slash the tires, so im on a tight budget considering im 17. also if anyone has a cheaper motor in the philadelphia, pa area contact me asap.

They are both SBC's... everything will fit everything... Not sure if it matters, though, if its a roller block -> roller block or not.

It will fit either way, roller cam or not. The intake however might not since they changed heads in 87 for the roller cam. I know in Camaro's the intake bolt angle changed, however I don't think they started putting roller cam motors in trucks until 90 or 91. Also to let you know, you can find motors cheaper than that. Recently there was a rebuilt 305 in the classifieds for like $300. You just have to look around for them, but you can find cheap motors. Also with the junkyard motor do you know if it runs, how well, what mielage, was it abused, is it ready to crap out 100 miles after you drop it in your car? You're probably better off finding a good (but cheap) rebuilt motor from someone who knows what they're doing. It might take a little while to find it, but it's possible, like I said it just takes some looking.

The motor in the suburban is identical to the one in your 89 as far as the long block goes. But $500 is a lot. I have one that runs great that I'd sell you for $300 (came out of my "Bird"), but I live in Illinois. Don't know if you want to travel that far.

I agree, $500 sounds very high for a junkyard motor. After looking for two months I finally found a complete 350 4 bolt, for $250.00. Just keep your eye in the classifieds and you should be able to knock a couple of hundred off of the $500 price tag.
