need help with my 383 swap

ok, I'm getting ready to do my engine swap, but still am undecided on a few things.

1. what to do about the intake, I have TBI, want to do the HSR, but can't afford it right now, so I was thinking about buying a used TPI setup from someplace like thirdgenresource ($500 for wiring and everything), then upgrading up to the HSR, or just going with a good intake and carb setup?

2. need to know what other things i need: fill in list:
383 - $2800
moroso motor mounts - 55
edelbrock headers - 350
dynomax high flow cat - 93
oil pan -
radiator -
dampener -
timing chain cover -
edelbrock high flow water pump - 160

I'm prob forgetting alot of stuff, but any other stuff or input about intake would be greatly appreciated.

You will need a flywheel or flexplate, depending on Auto or Stick. Unless your 383 is internally balanced, you will need the externally balanced units. You'll probably have to forget the TBI. To much to sort out. Was your car originally a 2.8 six? If so, tranny will not work. Different bolt pattern and output shaft. And you'll have to round up some V-8 front springs. $400 for headers???? Do some more shopping. You can do better especially on shorties which would work out fine for a torque-monster 383. I would get a high flow waterpump and make sure your radiator is sound.

I'm pretty sure it is externally ballanced, but I think I need to get a dampener for it. I have a 700R4 with a B&M shift kit, so that should be good to go. Thinking about getting a new/better stall converter but not sure if I will have enough money for that. I've also been thinking about getting a new radiator, I'll put that on the list. carb or efi?

You will need the externally balanced flywheel and balancer. I would go with the EFI if you could afford it. TPI will need mods to feed the larger 383. Check out some of the postings on the TPI board.

The 305 is internally balanced...so no, you have to get one for a 400 small block. In reality, that is the same crankshaft you are using....one from a 400. The mains were either machined down or were cast to the smaller main size to fit a 350 block. Otherwise, they are exactly the same (3.75" stroke).

If your car is a V-8 you don't need motor mounts unless you just feel like replaceing them. Unless yours are damaged. All Chevy SBC's use the same mounts.

If you can put up with the a little extra vibration, Energy Suspension are nice. They provide extra support and have a safety interlock so if they let go, your motor doesn't tear stuff up.

You CAN use the Flywheel from a 305 to a 350. I did it.
