hi everyone,
i have a 305 tbi with 200k+ mi. and i live in california. what factor crate motors (v8) can i legally swap? maybe use aftermarket tbi for mileage and simplicity.

I live in CA and swapped this one into my 92 RS.

It passes smog in CA as a 305 and I'm still using tbi.
The swap does require some changes to the fuel delivery and exhaust systems and a custom chip to make it work right.
Over 30,000 miles since it's been in and runs great.

I am installing a custom 355 with a super ram and lt4 hot cam... From the outside it's legal and I should be able to pass smog with a custom chip

 

thanks guys. i'm looking at upgrading for power yet maintaining reliability. the 305 was a good engine but it has it's limitations especially with factory tbi, etc. i've replaced or rebuilt about every mechanical on the car with the engine swap being the last major step. it hard to let go of a car you know. third gens are cool.
