What cam settings should I use?

I'm going to be building up a carbed 350 soon to put into my camaro.

I was going to upgrade the cam but I'm not exactly sure what kind of lift and stuff the cam should have.
I'm going to get the matching intake manifold depending on the cam.

I'm looking to get about 300-350 HP, so not a huge amount of power.

any ideas on what I should get?

I would guess a 218 or 220 duration 114 LSA will do it for you. For lift I would try to do .510 or .520. In general big lopay cams push the power up top.

Since you plan on carb you should not go too crazy unless you want to raise the idle up to 1000 rpm. Emissions will be a headache for you. Also, a dyno tune will be a good idea so you can get the carb dialed in properly.

As with any cam you consider gears or a torque converter. Good luck.

With good flowing hi-perf heads like Vortecs or Darts and a RPM intake, a cam with 214 to 218 deg @.050" duration and .450 to .480" lift
will get you there.

A stock smogger head will need a cam with about 225 to 230 deg @.050 to reach 350hp.

The larger camshaft will want a somewhat higher stall converter and higher rear gear. The power band occurs at a higher rpm.

Build the motor for 9.5 to 9.8:1 compression ratio reguardless.

Use a 750cfm carb.

For 350 hp, a better head design will get by with a milder cam
which is more driveable. Start with the best high performance head you can afford. Improveing a stock head with larger valves and porting is an option too.

Some stock heads are better than others as a starting point.
Cylinder heads with a small combustion chamber are desirable.

Just wanted to add that the heads I have are 76cc chambers (which I don't know what that means). I have been porting them and will be looking into aluminum rockers. I can't afford new one and I know how important that are. but since my goals aren't really that high, I was told I could get away with it.

about the worst of the worst head to bother working on.

give them to some one who wants to go slow.
The 76cc chamber means your compression ratio will be low.
Find a set of 64cc heads or 58cc heads (305)
common 64cc heads are {late} camel backs (with bolt holes) 186 or 041 or 492 castings or a set of cast L-98 heads from a 350tpi #083
or 305 tpi heads #081 or 305 HO heads #416
All the 305 heads mentioned can be had for a song.
They all need porting and larger 350 sized valves but make great budget hi performance heads with a little work.
Just a better result than what you'll get from 882's.
Don"t both with any of the swirl port heads either.
Commonly found on TBI motors.

Again don't waste your time on the 882's.

Spend your money whare it will do the most good.
Even stock rockers on a better head will out perform a roller rocker
on a bad (882) head.
