SHO in Firebird

I just got an ultimate setup that will smoke an LS1. About a week ago I installed a 3.2 Liter DOHC V6 from a 94 Ford Taurus. Sounds week and feeble minded? Wrong. Ford didnt build this motor, Yamaha did...I have had it installed for a week now and damn she runs good. I raced a friend that had a 1995 LT1 Z28 and smoked him. Easy...from the line all the way to the end of the 1/4 mile. Heres what I did. Bought the motor from a salvage and put a twin turbo set up on it, running two TD05 turbochargers from a manual 1st gen Mitsubishi Eclipse. The car ran a 12.9 in the quarter, I can rev it to 7500 RPMs with no problems. The car gets 25 miles to the gallon on the highway. Very reliable car. So if ya can find some other way to have a fast/affordable/unique car, I would like to see it. I would say I am pushing about 420 HP. Also, it looks very nice under the hood of a black 96 Firebird.

Sorry guys, I am in Corpus Christi right now and I have limited access to the internet. I will get you all some pics in 3 or 4 days, whenever I get back to Yorktown and get the digi camera from my friend. As far as makin it a RWD vehical, heres what I did. First of all, I took some JB Weld and filled in the Ford emblem on the intake, sanded it smooth and painted it bright yellow(Me thinks Yellow and Black look awsome together) After that, I had to make some motor mounts. That was a pain in the *** since they had to be custom fabricated. Heres how I made them, I used a 1/4 inch thick steel plate for the mount bases, rear four link bushings, and 7/8 seamless steel tube to connect them together. Once I got the motor nice and tight, I started on the transmission. I used a T5 transmission used with a 87 Aerostar bellhousing. The bolt pattern was the same. Then I made an alluminum adapter plate to bolt the transmission to the bellhousing. It gets a lot more detailed, best thing to do is to give you the website address that I went to that will explain the whole thing.
http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/modu...hold=0&sid=176
Anyway guys, I gotta get outta here. I will have some pics for ya in 4 days when I get back home and get the digital camera from my neighbor.

As a former '91 SHO owner I can contend to the potency of the Yamaha Engine.

I have also browsed the internet and there are MANY sites devoted to SHOS and the SHO engine swap. There IS even a AC Cobra Replica out there with the SHO power plant. It sure looks pretty facing north south.

Remember people you can make an adapter plate to mate any engine to any trans. Then all you need is the flywheel to bolt to the torque converter or clutch... not an undaunting task.

The bi-turbo AND 25 MPG is a bit of a stretch.. but money can buy just about anything. IF this guy did this all himself he is one hell of a fabricator / tuner.

The proof however IS in the pudding. Pics man pics... and don't try pulling any photoshop BS

Am I going to have to lock this, or can we keep the .02 to ourselves for now?

I at least want to give him a chance to post some pics of this creation.

Actually heres the deal. I keep trying to post through hotmail and when I do that, it tells me I'm not logged in, so once I have a huge page typed and I press done, it screws up. Now secondly, Abird4u2nv1 - Its not a third gen car, its a fourth gen car, 1996 black Firebird. Also My last post that I tried to make, I was going to say that my buddy that has the camera is out on the Rig and will be back in like a week and a half. Alot of poeple in Yorktown work on oil rigs. So I am going to have to wait for him to get back. Anyway, if you like to call me a liar, go for it, It doesnt bother me that much, its just internet. What does hack me off is that it wasnt all that hard, yet you say its impossible. Anyhow, I will post the pics as soon as I am able to get them.

Stephen

P.S.
She is still running great.

That's a good start!

Steve- you can take a disposable camera, take shots and have Wal-Mart put the pics on a CD. It might go along way in putting this to rest quickly, and restoring your credibility.

While we wait for the pics could you please entertain the crowd by detailing what engine management system you are using to control this hybrid?

my roomate has a SHO... we're building another SHO engine for it right now so he can swap... (its his daily driver so it cant be down for the entire build)

poking around you can find several swaps where they change the East-West layout to a proper RWD North-South one.. heck one guy even turned the engine around in his SHO and has it RWD lol.....

leaving out the turbo part and talking about just swapping in a SHO motor, i honestly dont think it would be that hard. what are you guys expecting to be hard about it? worse thing i can think of are the wiring for the gauge hookups... other then that, its a pretty straightforward (athough unusual) swap...

as for what EFI hes using, i donno... i dont know much about ford ECM setups, but i do know that a stock SHO has 3 computers.....for some strange reason.. heh

Thats a pretty interesting swap, a buddy of mine has a SHO it pulls pretty hard, but one thing you said you ran a 12.9 with turbo SHO engine, well doesnt LS1 3rd gen's run lower then that stock.

I wouldnt consider a ls1 powered 3rd gen stock...

But yeah you should be able to run 12's no problem in an ls1 3rd gen as long as you can find traction

Want what? A SHO powered firebird? i dunno just thought it was a cool idea, custom work and new ideas get me excited. FYI tho he did this swap in a 96 bird... which doesnt make much sense, a TT Lt1 should make much more power then this thing supposedly does... i would think it would be less work then this swap...

Well, pretty nice, but isn't it easier, cheaper, and more powerful to just turbo a 350?

Some people fail to realize that you CAN turbo a V8...and it will rape most anything else...

No pics yet? We could settle this quick sschoeffler how about i meet up with you soon since i live about 20min from you in Kenedy Ill bring the digi cam snap some pics and then we could go heads up TT 350 vs. TT 3.2 l to see what that ford powered car could do. I dont doubt he did it that town of yorktown seems to spawn some really odd cars but none have been able to beat the BlownBird1 or 2 and im sure the soon to be 3. Not bashin the guy or trying to be almighty just wanna see some pics.

If you dont wanna run the TA ill bring the fiero powered by a pretty little caddy motor and its stock just name the time a place ill be happy to come to you. PM me when your ready.
